Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It’s that time of year again, The X Factor final, and Fleur East, Ben Haenow and Andrea Faustini are busy rehearsing for arguably the biggest night of their lives.

It’s each man and woman for themselves as they practice the songs they will perform in their last bid to be crowned winner.

Should Andrea bag the title, he will release a cover of “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength” by Whitney Houston, while Fleur and Ben have both laid down recordings of “Something I Need” by One Republic.

Fleur has emerged as the bookies’ favourites to win with Ladbrokes odds of 4/11, while Ben could upset predictions at 11/4 and Andrea remains the possible dark horse at 14/1.

Last week’s semi-final saw Lauren Platt leave the competition after a sing-off with Andrea and Fleur proved a huge hit with viewers.

Her sassy performance of “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars shot to the top of the iTunes chart, prompting Ronson to release his original five weeks early.

Fleur will bring “Uptown Funk” back again tonight after choosing it as her performance of the series with mentor Simon Cowell. She will also sing “Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.

Andrea will perform Michael Jackson’s “Earth Song” once more along with “Feeling Good” by Nina Simone, while Ben is returning to “Man in the Mirror”, also by Michael Jackson and will attempt “Demons” by Imagine Dragons too.
