From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Andrea Faustini’s X Factor journey has come to an end.

The Italian singer was voted off during the first part of the show’s final, leaving Fleur East and Ben Haenow to battle it out tonight to become this year’s winner.

Faustini’s mentor Mel B was forced to miss the show due to illness last night, with former judge Tulisa Contostavlos standing in for the 39-year-old.

East Londoner Fleur East is the favourite to win the competition. The 26-year-old was praised by the judges last night for her performance of “Cant’ Hold Us”.

Her mentor Simon Cowell said she was “really, really special”, adding that if she was not in tonight's final “something has gone horribly wrong”.

Croydon van driver Ben Haenow’s performance of “Demons” by Imagine Dragons also drew praise from all four judges, with Louis Walsh commending his “special voice and great attitude”.

Haenow and East have both recorded a version of the OneRepublic track “Something I Need” for the winner's single.

The two will perform the song again tonight in a bid to be crowned X Factor winner.

The X Factor final continues on Sunday 14 December on ITV at 8pm.
