From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

One dramatic episode in and there's already people being 'muggy', 'salty' and 'extra', just some of the unique words you can expect to hear.
Here's everything you need to know about what went on in episode one.
Need a reminder of who’s heading to the luxury villa in Majorca, Spain? Then flick through the gallery below, which holds snippets of information on each of the eleven tanned, toned, and tattooed contestants.
This year’s Love Island will be the longest season of the show so far, this year’s 150,000 applicants being told they would need to be available for a minimum of ten weeks for the series.
Caroline Flack – who will once again be hosting – previously said this series will be the “longest yet”. Ian Sterling will also be returning as the voice of Love Island.
Some other tidbits of information: while unconfirmed, the contestants (many of whom leave their jobs or take extensive leave to be on the show) get paid a rumoured £200 a week for participating.
ITV2’s popular spin-off show Aftersun also returns this year, while the channel has also launched a podcast series named The Morning After.

The Love Island producers have thrown the contestants a curveball.
Just as the pairs had finished coupling, a new man has arrived at the villa: Adam.
It looks like we have an odd number now...
Here's Sean O'Grady's take on the spanner in the works contestant that is Adam...
"Adam. Tall, dark, handsome. Tats will look quite silly in the care home, circa 2060."
And breathe.
Thank goodness, we have another advert break to take stock.
So where are we at?
The contestants are now paired up (we'll give you a full list of who is with who shortly) and ready to start life in the villa.
But there's a slight difference. As well as the five couples, there is a cheeky bonus person: Adam Collard.
The Geordie personal trainer who literally calls himself "tall, dark and handsome" is here to shake up the newly formed relationships.
They've been together all of five minutes, how dare he intrude on such romance?
Here are all our couples so far (not including eight-pack Adam):
Laura and Wes
Danni and Jack
Samira and Alex
Kendal and Nial
Hayley and Eyal
In case you're wondering, is name is pronounced 'Ay-al'. Hayley still can't seem to master it.
An important point from first-time viewer Sean O'Grady here:
"First real challenging post-Brexit issue just emerged...can teeth be *too* white? One for Nick Robinson and Martha Kearney in the morning, there."
Unexpected Love Island meta-question: "What does superficial mean?" Destined for Oxford book of quotes. Seriously.
