Jordan

The Middle Eastern nation of Jordan offers visitors a unique blend of history, adventure and relaxation. Whether you’re looking for an action-packed trip or are seeking some tranquility, our travel experts have hand-selected the best things to do in Jordan to help you book the ultimate trip.

Petra

Jordan’s best-known landmark is the ancient city of Petra, located in the south. The UNESCO World Heritage Site, a stunning example of Nabataean architecture, was carved into the rock as early as the 5th century BC. Surrounded by mountains with a network of passages and trails, the Lost City of Petra is a go-to destination for trekkers and explorers – film fans will enjoy making a pilgrimage to the location of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Amman

One of the most famous and popular routes to Petra is from Amman, Jordan’s capital. While a bustling hub of activity, culture and nightlife, Amman is also full of ancient ruins – enjoy breathtaking views from the Citadel or wander around the Roman Temple of Hercules.

The Dead Sea and the Red Sea

If that’s not enough to whet your appetite, there’s also a plethora of water sports to try and coastline to explore. To the west of Amman lies the Dead Sea, a landlocked salt lake whose name derives from the fact that no fish can survive the high level of saline. Its mud is said to have healing properties, often used to treat psoriasis and other skin conditions.

At the southern tip of the Jordan, meanwhile, lies the Red Sea. Just 27km long, the coastline on the Gulf of Aqaba is a great spot for snorkelling and scuba diving and is largely unspoilt. Visitors can enjoy the warm waters and catch a glimpse of everything from angelfish to sea turtles.
