Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Apple unveiled not just one new version of the iPhone X, but three, in its biggest event of the year.

Among the trio is Apple's largest ever phone – the iPhone Xs Max – which features the biggest display that Apple has ever put in a phone.

Many details about that new phone, including its shiny gold colour, were accidentally leaked by Apple ahead of the event. The other two devices are the slightly smaller iPhone Xs and the cheaper iPhone Xr version.

But it wasn't just the iPhones that were revealed at the event. Lots more was announced, including huge updates to the Apple Watch and long-awaited new accessories.

The new Apple Watch was also leaked ahead of the event, showing the first re-design of the wearable since it was released.

Please allow a moment for the live blog to load.

Those in Cupertino are now arriving at the Steve Jobs Theater ready for the event, which begins in just over an hour. It's a glorious, beautiful day, and the glassy sheen of the big ol' circle is looking beautiful.

The snacks are looking just as nice.

Still an hour to go before the new iPhones. But here are cleared up versions of those leaked images from last week, showing the XS and XS Max.

And here's the Apple Watch.

The Apple Park – the usually secretive campus onto which Apple lets the press for its big iPhone reveals – is very much a work-in-progress, as the nature there grows around the big circular donut in the middle. Last year was the first year it opened, and looked a little bear; as can be seen in this picture, it's coming along fast and organically.

The top bit of the Steve Jobs Theater – which is a kind of lobby before everyone gets escorted downstairs – is looking very full.

If you're interested in how that works, here's the blueprints for the theatre, which actually shows that people descend deep underground in order to watch.

People are heading into the auditorium. Here's how it looks!

Apple's live stream has sort of started: it's just playing music and showing an Apple logo for now. If you'd like to get in on that, check out this link here.

Tim Cook appears to have publicly tweeted a bizarre message that might have been meant for a DM.

It suggests that something might be going wrong – what does he need? Are they missing something from the presentation? Who knows?

Cook's Twitter account is usually tightly controlled. It's not clear whether he or someone else at Apple posted this. But it's very strange, whatever's happening, especially just moments before the press conference is about to start.

Update: that tweet has now been deleted. Mysterious!
