Wimbledon 2018: Five contenders to win

Wimbledon 2018 - day three: Order of play, prize money, how to get tickets, everything you need to know.

Today sees the second round begin at The Championships.

Serena Williams is in action on Centre Court, with Karolina Pliskova opening play against Victoria Azarenka. Carolina Wozniacki and Venus Williams are meanwhile in action on Court One, while Agnieszka Radwanska’s match against Lucie Safarova is not to be missed.

Roger Federer will of course be in action too – he takes on Lukas Lacko of Slovenia. Marin Cilic plays Guido Pella on Court One, with Andreas Seppi up against Kevin Anderson on Court Two.

Sam Querry and Sergiy Stakhovsky are into the third set in their match on Court 12. The American currently leads 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 4-3.

Alijaz Bedene is also in action against Radu Albot, having beaten Cameron Norrie to reach the second round of Wimbledon. He's currently behind, with Albot leading 6-2 4-6 2-1. Looks like that one could take some time.

Elsewhere, Venus Williams looks to be closing in on victory. After suffering defeat in her opening set against Alexandra Dulgheru, the American struck back to win the second one 6-0 and now leads 3-1 in the third and final set.

Here we go. Federer finally gets his breakthrough. After being forced into drastic measures with a high looping shot over the Slovakian, who had rushed forward to the net, Federer quickly reasserted himself before drawing a sloppy mistake from his opponent. He's got the break and now serves to pull ahead.

Report: Pliskova reaches second round

Seventh seed Karolina Pliskova won a battle of former world number ones as she beat Victoria Azarenka 6-3 6-3 to reach the third round at Wimbledon for the first time on Wednesday.

Big-serving Czech Pliskova reached the top of the rankings a year ago at Wimbledon despite losing in the second round -- the fifth year in succession she had lasted only two matches.

From the moment Azarenka dropped serve with a loose error in the third game, Pliskova always looked likely to break that sequence against the Belarussian who is still trying to rediscover her past form after returning from having a baby.

Azarenka tried to fire herself up when she resisted some pressure to hold serve at the start of the second set.

But Pliskova broke for a 5-3 lead and was then helped by two Azarenka double faults that brought groans from the sedate crowd who had been hoping for something more exciting.

"I think I was pretty solid today, I think I was really strong on my serve which was really important," the 26-year-old Pliskova said after walking off court.

"Very happy with my victory as it is the first time I am in the third round here. The last few years I was waiting for a good result and it still didn't come, maybe this year is the time; I am feeling great."

She will play Romanian 28th seed Mihaela Buzarnescu next.
