After beating Gilles Simon 7-6 (7-1) 7-6 (7-5) 5-7 7-6 (7-5), Del Potro is making his first quarter-final appearance at SW19 since 2013.
Nadal, meanwhile, reached his first Wimbledon quarter-final since 2011 with a straight-set win over unseeded Czech Jiri Vesely.
Both men have struggled with injuries over the years but it is Nadal who heads into the clash as the favourite, having not yet dropped a set at the All England Club.

*Del Potro 4-5 Nadal
An impressive service game sees the Spaniard cruise through the points to hold once again. He looks far more comfortable than Del Potro who is only just clinging on at the moment.
Del Potro 5-5 Nadal*
Nadal sends a forehand stroke well wide on the first point before Del Potro fires down yet another ace to make it 30-0. A mishit return after the ball had clipped the net takes the game to 30-15 but an unforced error from the Spaniard hands the Argentine control. He sees out the game with a thumping serve.
*Del Potro 5-6 Nadal
Another 17-shot rally has the crowd on the edge of their seats in anticipation but this time it's Nadal who comes out on top with a backhand down the line that completely caught Del Potro off guard. The Argentine was clearly miffed as he takes the next point with a biting winner across court that must have clocked in at 100mph+. Nadal keeps his cool, though, and settles matters with a pushed forehand into space before drawing an error from DelPo on his serve.
Del Potro 5-6 Nadal*
Del Potro is showing little respect for Nadal's forehand return as he delivers yet another huge ace down the T. A fine start to the game. A placed backhand from Nadal quickly makes it 15-15, though, before the Argentine over-hits a simple forehand stroke to fall 30-15 behind.
Del Potro 5-7 Nadal
DelPo fires over a forehand winner but another unforced error hands Nadal set point. He fluffs his line with a netted baseline stroke and the game goes to deuce. He stays focused and is immediately back on top with a forehand into space that the world No 4 had no chance of returning. From there, Del Potro nets after a short rally and that's the set gone. Nadal leads!
*Del Potro 5-7 0-1 Nadal
Nadal is in full control but DelPo still possesses that ability to produce something out of nothing. After a rapid-fire, crosscourt exchange between the two men, the Argentine picked out the space to Nadal's left with a perfectly-placed forehand winner that the Spaniard was helpless to return. A cheeky lob and thumping serve from the world No 1 followed to dash Del Potro's hopes of a break.
Del Potro 5-7 1-1 Nadal*
Despite looking a little shaky the big-hitting Argentine holds thanks to a series of impressive serves and thumping forehand shots. Easy as pie, this.
*Del Potro 5-7 1-2 Nadal
Nadal holds to love. Bread-and-butter stuff from the Spaniard.
