Raducanu returns to action on Centre Court at Wimbledon after Alcaraz defeated Frances Tiafoe in a five-set comeback
Emma Raducanu returns to action on Centre Court today at Wimbledon when she faces the world No 9 Maria Sakkari. Raducanu has produced some of her best tennis for some time and is looking to reach the fourth round of Wimbledon for the second time in her career.
Earlier, Carlos Alcaraz kept his Wimbledon defence alive after digging deep and coming from behind to beat Frances Tiafoe in a five-set thriller on Centre Court. Alcaraz was two sets to one down against an inspired Tiafoe, but the Spaniard improved his five-set record to played 12, won 13 as he battled back to claim victory in almost four hours in his first major test of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Sonay Kartal’s Wimbledon run is over after losing the final eight games in a row in a 6-4 6-0 defeat to the world number two Coco Gauff.

Raducanu works nicely behind her serve for a 30-0 lead.
She then seems to stick a forehand on the baseline, but it’s called long. She ponders a challenge but decides against it. 30-15.
Double-fault from Raducanu, and it’s 30-30. The crowd looks to give her a boost.
Sakkari pushes the Briton back now, and Raducanu’s forehand from deep comes up short! Break point Sakkari! 30-40.
Great forehands from Raducanu, and one on the run forces an error from Sakkari! Deuce, break point saved.
And again Sakkari nets after a powerful Raducanu forehand! Advantage.
Wonderful groundstrokes from both players, until Sakkari fires into the net! Raducanu holds after saving another break point!

Triple break point for Raducanu... but she’s beaten at the net! 15-40.
Sakkari saves another break point! Can she erase the third one?
Yes! Raducanu laughs off this point, after reaching a drop shot and missing a smash. Deuce.

Sakkari with great range on a forehand. She’s right on the baseline, and she sticks her shot right on the opposite baseline as well.
Raducanu challenges that one, but to no avail. 0-15.
Raducanu tries to wrongfoot the Greek... and lands her backhand just inside the baseline! Lovely stuff. 15-15.
Sakkari finally loses the overarching backhand battle of this game, punching one long. 30-15.
Again Sakkari goes long. 40-15.
And Raducanu holds. Professional stuff.

Over on No 1 Court, Britain’s Sonay Kartal – the world No 298 – is down a set and a break against Coco Gauff.
Gauff, the No 2 seed, is of course a big favourite there, and Kartal has done well to be competitive so far.

Sakkari places an inside-out forehand right in the corner. She’s struggled with her forehand so far, so that will encourage her.
We move to 30-15, and again Sakkari makes the inside-out forehand! She wrongfoots Raducanu before picking her spot.
40-15. Raducanu moves the Greek around nicely, and Sakkari can’t beat the net. 40-30.
Now Raducanu is long on a forehand, and Sakkari is on the scoreboard.

Great rally. Eventually, Raducanu gets a bit lucky as she balloons a forehand but it somehow lands in the court, and Sakkari then makes another error!

But Raducanu gets on the board and the crowd loves that! 30-15.
Searing backhand winner from Sakkari, however – crosscourt and into the corner. That brings up two game points. 40-15.
The Greek steps in on a forehand, but she overshoots it as she aims for the corner. 40-30.
Now the players trade deep backhands, with Sakkari again pushing a groundstroke too long! Deuce.

Emma Raducanu will get her wish of playing under the roof of Centre Court, with the rain pounding down outside.
“I prefer having the roof on probably because I think the sound is just amplified,” she said after her win against Elise Mertens in the second round.
“It’s like a concert hall. It’s really nice to play in, an amazing environment. It’s a lot louder. The ball even sounds different when you hit it.”
And here come the players!
