Wimbledon 2024 LIVE: Tennis scores as Emma Raducanu pulls out of doubles to end Andy Murray’s SW19 career
Murray and Raducanu were due to team up in the mixed doubles, but the two-time champion has now played his final Wimbledon match
Emma Raducanu has pulled out of her mixed doubles match with Andy Murray to end his Wimbledon career. Citing soreness in her right wrist, Raducanu has been unable to recover from her storming victory over Maria Sakkari on Friday evening.
The two-time singles champion has now played his final-ever match at the All England Club, having joined his brother Jamie in the men’s doubles on Thursday before an emotional ceremony on Centre Court commemorated the end of his singles career.
Raducanu breezed into the fourth round of the singles with an impressive victory over Sakkari yesterday, but Murray cannot re-pair with another player and is unable to continue in the mixed doubles. There is no suggestion yet that Raducanu’s involvement in the fourth round against Lulu Sun on Sunday afternoon is in danger.
Raducanu is now the last Briton standing in the singles draws. That’s after Cameron Norrie lost an epic 32-point tiebreak against fourth seed Alexander Zverev, as the German wrapped up a 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 (17-15) victory, before Harriet Dart’s run was put to an end following a painful third-set collapse against Xinyu Wang, losing the final six games in a row in a 2-6 7-5 6-3 defeat.
There was a big shock elsewhere in the women’s draw, with World No 1 Iga Swiatek knocked out in the third round by Yulia Putintseva. That followed the exit of Ons Jabeur, the runner-up from the past two years, who was eliminated by Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina. Novak Djokovic was the final player through to the fourth round as the seven-time champion battled from a set down to defeat Alexei Popyrin on Centre Court.

“After such a tough clay court season, I really must have my recovery. Maybe that’s also the reason. But I thought that I’m going to be able to kind of, I don’t know, play at the same level. I feel like on grass I need little bit more of that energy to keep being patient and accept some mistakes.
“Like mentally, I didn’t really do that well on this tournament. I need to recover better after clay court season, both physically and mentally.”
