From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

40 mins: They go right and Joseph cuts in on a line. He's tackled, wriggles his way over the line...and it's held up yet again to end the half.
A very poor showing from the Lions and they are TRAILING 7-3.
Half-time: Here come the Barbarians, eager to get back out there for the second half, and the Lions are keeping them waiting.
Half-time: The Lions finally rejoin us, and we're ready for the second half. No changes to report for the Lions, while the Barbarians have replaced the try scorer Anderson-Heather with Andrew Makalio.
42 mins: An early penalty for the Lions after the ball is swept back illegally by the Barbarians defence. They go for goal again, but with Sexton receiving treatment, Laidlaw will go for goal. The crowd are not impressed.
45 mins: Sexton puts a good chip over the defence into the corner but the Barbarians lineout is functioning well. They make a mess of the clearance kick though after Gatland is hit hard by Faletau, but Moriarty is quickly turned over by Reece and the BaaBaas attack, only to knock it forwards.
48 mins: Turnover in the Lions' favour on their own 22 and they break quickly with Te'o doing the running one again. They charge into the opposition half, but an almighty hit from replacement hooker Andrew Makalio on Alun Wyn Jones forces the knock-on and sends the lock into the next province.
Sexton's heading off, and Owen Farrell is on at fly-half.
50 mins: The Lions win a penalty in the ruck and although it's well within kicking distance, Sinckler decides to tap and go. It's a poor decision as he immediately concedes the penalty, and that's the end of his game as he's replaced by Tadhg Furlong. There's plenty of other changes, as Jamie George, Mako Vunipola and George Kruis also come on in place of Rory Best, Joe Marler and Iain Henderson.
