From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

What time does it start?

The match kicks off at 07:35 NZ time [08:35 BST] on Tuesday.

Where can I watch it?

The match will be shown live on Sky Sports 1 from 08:00 BST.

Teams:

Highlanders: Richard Buckman; Waisake Naholo, Malakai Fekitoa, Teohorangi Walden, Tevita Li; Lima Sopoaga, Kayne Hammington; Daniel Lienert-Brown, Liam Coltman, Siate Tokolahi; Alex Ainley, Jackson Hemopo; Gareth Evans, Dillon Hunt, Luke Whitelock.

Reserves: Greg Pleasants-Tate, Aki Seiuli, Siosuia Halanukonuka, Josh Dickson, James Lentjes, Josh Renton, Marty Banks, Patrick Osborne.

British and Irish Lions:

Jared Payne; Jack Nowell, Jonathan Joseph, Robbie Henshaw, Tommy Seymour; Dan Biggar, Rhys Webb; Joe Marler, Rory Best, Kyle Sinckler; Courtney Lawes, Iain Henderson; James Haskell, Sam Warburton, CJ Stander.

Replacements: Ken Owens, Jack McGrath, Dan Cole, Alun Wyn Jones, Justin Tipuric, Greig Laidlaw, Owen Farrell, Elliot Daly.

67 mins: There are bodies everywhere as the physicality and energy on show today is starting to take its toll of the players. The Lions have won a penalty for being tackled without the ball.

Owen Farrell and Justin Tipuric are on for Biggar (who is limping) and Warburton.

Farrell is taking the penalty with his first action of the game... and he's missed it. Poor kick.

73 mins: The Highlanders have just won a huge scrum there and the Lions don't like it and there are a bit of handbags here. This is a big moment for Banks from the tee... and he nails it! Highlanders take the lead 23-22. Seven minutes remaining.

77 mins: Penalty Lions!

This is well out of Farrell's range, but not Elliot Daly's. He's a good 55m out here. The referee has just pulled him back even further as well... and that extra metre he has been brought back has made all the difference! So, so close from Daly.

If that had gone over Daly would have been the first man to score for and against the Lions having done so for the Baa-Baas in 2013.

79 mins: Farrell kicks to the corner and the clock is about to go dead. Last chance saloon for the Lions.

AND IT'S OVER

Farrell's pass inside to Joseph can't be collected and the Bath centre knocks it forward. What a game and what a huge scalp for the Highlanders!

LIONS LOSE 23-22

Jack Austin13 June 2017 10:22

What an effort from both the Lions and the Highlanders. Farrell's penalty miss has proved costly.

There were some fantastic performances in there from the likes of Webb, Biggar and Warburton but this team will be nowhere near the side that will face the All Blacks in 11 days time at Eden Park.

Jack Austin13 June 2017 10:24

The Saturday team to face the Maori All Blacks is more likely to take the shape of the Test side which will mark exactly one week until the first Test.

Jack Austin13 June 2017 10:25

Speaking after the game, Sam Warburton has stressed discipline. The Lions gave away 12 penalties to the Highlanders seven. Warburton said there were four in a row which saw territory conceded.

He looks bitterly disappointed, especially with how the Lions conceded possession at the breakdown.

The positive is that they've scored three tries here for the first time on the tour.

So much rests on Saturday's game against the Maoris. The Lions desperately need momentum going into the first Test but this will be one of their toughest to date.

It was a night of positives and negatives for the Lions.
