From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

First half analysis from Jack de Menezes in Dunedin:

Plenty to dissect from that first 40 minutes, though I don't think much of Angus Gardner's performance so far. The Highlanders have been expansive and on the whole rather impressive. The try for Naholo was taken straight out of the book of 'rugby chaos', although Courtney Laws won't know much about it. But credit to the Lions, they bounced back immediately and it was a well taken try by Joseph - who has come good to hurry Fekitoa after a nervy start.

40 mins: And we're back underway in Dunedin! What a second 40 minutes we are in for here.

42 mins: TRY LIONS!

The Highlanders try a kick pass across the back but they get Sopoagna gets it wrong and Tommy Seymour intercepts it to score. He's had a tough match so far but that will make up for it. Biggar, again from the touchline... misses. 10-15.

46 mins: ANOTHER line break from Rhys Webb. The Welshman is really putting his hand up here for a Test spot. He puts in a lovely dummy and skips away from three players. But, again, there is an offside and they concede possession.

Webb is off now with a slight knock to his hip and Greig Laidlaw is on.

Jack Austin13 June 2017 09:45

48 mins: Kyle Sinckler gives away a penalty with his last action in the game and Sopoange kicks it with ease from under the posts. 13-15.

Jack Austin13 June 2017 09:48

50 mins: The Lions have a five-metre scrum here after an awful pass from Sopoanga goes dead. Big opportunity here.

53 mins: TRY LIONS!!

Three minutes of pressure from the Lions on the Highlanders line culminates with Henderson powering through and Alun Wyn Jones clears out smartly to create a gap for Sam Warburton to pick up and score. Biggar adds the extras. 13-22.

Jack Austin13 June 2017 09:52

58 mins: Big moment in this game here. The Highlanders were really going for it and ran from the penalty. But a huge, giant, clearout from Henderson sends two Highlanders flying and gives the Lions a vital turnover which is cleared well from Laidlaw.

The Lions are being warned about the number of offsides they've been penalised for.

60 mins: TRY HIGHLANDERS!!

Liam Coltman touches down after a textbook catch and drive. They really exploited the weakpoint there and they are back in it and deservedly so. Banks steps up for the conversion... and nails it! 20-22.

Jack Austin13 June 2017 10:00

62 mins: Mystified looks from the Lions pack as they give away a penalty at the scrum. Dan Cole cannot believe it.

Jared Payne is replaced by Elliot Daly at full-back.
