From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Eddie Jones sends his side into the match looking to end their four-game losing streak, having suffered three straight losses in the Six Nations and losing to the Barbarians a fortnight ago. They are also without their captain, Dylan Hartley, due to concussion as Owen Farrell takes over the leadership duties. Mike Brown starts on the wing with Elliot Daly at full-back, while New Zealand-born flanker Brad Shields is among the replacements and could make his international debut.
South Africa meanwhile will make history as Stormers flanker Siya Kolisi becomes the first black player to captain the Springboks, and does so wearing the No 6 shirt that became so famous when Nelson Mandela wore it during the 1995 Rugby World Cup.

1 mins: England win the first penalty of the match as Jean-Luc du Preez dives off his feet in the ruck. It's not even on England's own 10m line, but Daly is going for goal! This is from 61m out...
3 mins: He nails it! Daly converts the 61m penalty and England lead 0-3.
4 mins: This is an incredible start from England. Straight from the restart, May breaks down the right and makes all of 40 metres. He passes inside to Youngs, and when the ball is recycled it's played out left through Ford, Farrell and Mike Brown. The full-back-turned-wing beats De Allende and De Klerk to power over and reach out with one hand to score, and Farrell nails the touchline conversion. A flying start! 0-10
10 mins: South Africa have responded well as they send a barrage of runners at the England defence. It times some fairly strong resilience to hold them out, and George is pinged for not rolling away, and when Nkosi tries to jink past Brown the try-scorer just gets a hand to him to prevent the try. We come back for the penalty and Pollard goes for goal.
13 mins: Brilliant from Slade as he steps one defender, commits a second and offloads to Brown off the deck, and his run gets England into the Springboks' 22. Here goes Daly...TRY FOR ENGLAND!
14 mins: Excellent back play from England. They send a few forward runners before whipping the ball out, and again it takes just one phase to score the try as Elliot Daly swoops round the back and goes over in the same corner as Brown unopposed. Farrell duly adds the conversion and England are scoring faster than a point a minute! 3-17
17 mins: This is getting a bit silly now! Ford floats a beauty of a pass out to May and the Leicester wing flies up the right side of the pitch, committing Willie le Roux before passing inside to Owen Farrell, and the skipper might as well walk over such is the ease with which England are slicing the Springboks open. He scores between the posts and adds the simple conversion. 3-24
