From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Eddie Jones has taken a gamble ahead of the match by handing Brad Shields his first start for England, having dropped Chris Robshaw from the matchday squad in the process, while he has also elected to bring Joe Launchbury straight back into the starting line-up following his recovery from a calf injury. Danny Cipriani also features, although the Gloucester-bound fly-half will have to wait for his international return as he named among the replacements.
South Africa meanwhile have made two changes in the hope of clinching yet another series victory over England. Pieter-Steph du Toit starts at flanker in place of Jean-Luc du Preez and Frans Malherbe returns at tighthead prop, with Wilco Louw dropping out of the squad. The match will also be a special occasion for loosehead prop Tendai Mtawarawira as he will win his 100th cap for the Springboks.

Replacements: Luke Cowan-Dickie, Joe Marler, Harry Williams, Mark Wilson, Nathan Hughes, Ben Spencer, Danny Cipriani, Denny Solomona.
31 mins: That's a great kick from Farrell. De Allende smashes the ball up into Billy Vunipola and the No 8 makes the tackle and strips the ball. Shields feeds Farrell, and he nudges the ball into touch inside the South African 22.
36 mins: De Klerk comes charging up into Curry and it's a nasty-looking collision between their heads that leaves Faf in a faf and Curry with a bloody nose.
37 mins: Surprisingly and somewhat worryingly neither had departed for an HIA - why?
Anyway, England attack and Mako Vunipola knocks on just when they were going up through the gears, and soon after South Africa win a penalty in the ruck when Farrell holds on that eases the pressure. Just outside their own 10m line, Pollard is going for a kick well inside his own half.
40 mins: Mbonambi breaks through Mako Vunipola's attempted tackle and charges 30 metres upfield, but a good tackle from Brown stops him in his tracks and England win the penalty. The half-time hooter goes but there's enough time for one more play, with Nathan Hughes on for an injured Billy Vunipola - not another one.
Half-time: The play comes to nothing and the teams head in with South Africa 13-12 ahead.
Half-time: It's very much a case of the same old story for England. Seven penalties in that half has helped South Africa whittle away their early lead - which came through two good tries from Mike Brown and Jonny May - and if they're not careful it's going to be another near-miss. Eddie Jone has some work to do here to sharpen up the discipline, otherwise England will have no chance of winning this.
