Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Major winners Francesco Molinari, Louis Oosthuizen, Brooks Koepka, Jason Day and Adam Scott shared top spot at the Masters on Friday at the end of the second round, but it was Tiger Woods who commanded the spotlight once again at Augusta National.

Woods brought the roars back to the famed venue with a brilliant four-under-par 68, putting himself on track for a fifth Green Jacket.

At six-under-par 138, the American is just one shot off the leaders heading into 'moving day'.

After an ordinary outward nine featuring three birdies offset by a pair of bogeys, Woods embarked on one of his trademark charges, carding three birdies after the turn to shoot up the leaderboard.

Thunderstorms? What thunderstorms?

The sun is out and it's a glorious day at Augusta National now. There's some scoring opportunities out there if the players are brave enough to go after it.

Great birdie chance for Kuchar at the par-3 sixth as he finds the green. Zach Johnson hits his tee shot just off the green near the flag and Poulter finds the front left side of the green leaving himself a long, slow putt back up the green.

Pars all round at the third for DeChambeau (-7), Day (-3) and Dustin Johnson (-3).

Kevin Kisner loses a shot at the par-3 sixth and drops to -2.

Brooks Koepka finds himself in trouble on the second. He got out of position and couldn't recover finishing with a 7 on the par-5. Koepka moves back to -5 with DeChambeau and Mickelson in front of him.

Kuchar's making a move with another birdie at the sixth. That's his third for the day as he moves into the pack at -3.

Poulter makes par to keep himself at -4.

Justin Rose +2 threatens to undo his early birdies with a bogey at the third but a good tee shot on four leaves him with a birdie attempt.

Michael Jones12 April 2019 16:51

Kiradech Aphibarnrat (-3) birdies the seventh to bring him back level for the day. Yesterday's early leader Corey Conners pars his first two holes to stay at -2.

Michael Jones12 April 2019 16:53

Mickelson (-6) misses his birdie attempt at the fourth, as does Justin Thomas (E).

Michael Jones12 April 2019 16:55

Justin Rose (+2) misses his birdie attempt at 4 and has a tricky putt back for par. The predicted cut stands a +3 so he could do with making it... and he does!

Michael Jones12 April 2019 16:57

Trouble for Mickelson at the fifth as he sends his tee shot way left into the trees.
