From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

NO TRY! He's just short and then pushed into touch!
Marius Jonker agrees with Romain Poite's assessment. Perenara was an inch-or-so short of the line with his initial place and then the ball was just about touching white as he looked to push it for the score. Canada will have a five-metre lineout.
16 minutes
New Zealand earn a lineout just outside the Canada 22 and go to their attack again, with Sonny Bill Williams prominent again.
TJ Perenara releases a delicious back-of-the-hand pass, and there are gaps opening...
TRY! Sonny Bill Williams crashes over!
Sharp service from Perenara to feed his big inside centre, and Williams dummies and steps inside Jeff Hassler, treating hooker Eric Howard like a linen shoulder bag in making his way over the line with Howard hanging on.
Mo'unga converts.
New Zealand 21-0 Canada
20 minutes
Richie Mo'unga that is naughty! Down the All Blacks fly-half comes as he takes a high ball and in the same motion manages to step two Canadians, landing and planting his right boot to step away from their attempted tackles.
The attack breaks down as a Matt Todd offload is deemed forward.
22 minutes
New Zealand win a scrum penalty and are immediately back into Canada territory, but Gordon McRorie robs them and he's away.
And there's a sprinting Peter Nelson in support! Just hauled down by Beuaden Barrett...
23 minutes
Advantage coming for a no-arms tackle, but Canada are making little progress around the fringes...
24 minutes
Nothing coming, so back we come for the penalty. Kieran Read with a no-arms tackle.
