History was made in 2013 when Estimate won the Gold Cup, making The Queen the first reigning monarch to own a winner in the race’s 212-year history.
Stradivarius is favourite to retain his title for jockey Frankie Dettori and trainer John Gosden, although it faces a much stronger field than the one it enjoyed 12 months ago. Follow live updates in the blog below:

Cheers from the crowd send the field on their way with a length to go. Stradivarius is going well as Dee Ex Bee leads the field.
Silvestre De Sousa just shakes Dee Ex Bee a little as the field spreads a touch.
Dettori reaction
"What an amazing horse he is. He got me out of trouble. He's a horse for the big occasion and I love him dearly.
"I am only nervous because people care so much abut this horse. The Stable, every time it runs he delivers.
When asked about winning all six he added: "You never know!"
Bookies lose millions
William Hill: "We lost £2.5m on Stradivarius alone, and we are predicting this to be the biggest payout ever if he wins all the races on the card today."
Bookies facing biggest ever payout
After winning the first four races on Thursday's card, bookmakers are now running scared, with Frankie’s final two rides Turgenev and Questionare being cut to short-priced favourites for the final two races of Day 3 at Royal Ascot.
If you were to back Frankie’s six rides this morning, it would have paid out at odds of around 144,144/1.
Turgenev was available at 12/1 this morning but has since been cut to 5/2, and Questionare, widely available at 10/1, is now a general 9/4 chance.
Paddy Power tweeted at 4:53pm, suggesting that if Dettori does indeed land the six-timer at Royal Ascot, then it will be the biggest pay out in the history of the company.

John Gosden
Gosden said: "He was held in by Capri, but he went for his run and Frankie managed to wriggle through.
"He did a clever thing, Frankie, he said he was drawn two, would save ground all the way and wait for a gap.
"The horse is very classy, it's not his favoured ground, he's much better on top of the ground, but he's shown his class.
"Full marks to a remarkable horse and the sometimes mercurial, remarkable jockey - but I think it's all down to the horse, even though Frankie keeps saying it's him!
"When you think of Le Moss, Sagaro and Yeats they are wonderful horses and great for the public as people get to know them.
"He (Stradivarius) is a little guy with white socks and a white face, he looks like the milky bar kid should be riding him."
