Put into bat in a stop-start match, India posted a commanding 336-5 with Rohit Sharma (140) smashing his second century of the tournament.
Skipper Virat Kohli (77) and KL Rahul (57) also got fifty but Mohammad Amir's (3-47) tight death-overs spell denied India a 350-plus total in the sold out contest between the arch-rivals.
A century stand between Fakhar Zaman (62) and Babar Azam (48) kept alive Pakistan's hopes until they suffered a batting collapse and finished on 212-6 in 40 overs chasing a revised target of 302.
Kuldeep Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Vijay Shankar claimed two wickets each for India who now have a 7-0 record against Pakistan in World Cup.
5.0 India 20-0 KL Rahul 6 Rohit Sharma 14
After an excellent start to the day, things have soured a little for Amir. A short ball is pulled away by Rahul for four and then he picks up his second warning for running onto the pitch. Umpire Bruce Oxenford does not appear to be in a lenient mood, so Amir needs to be careful.
6.0 India 32-0 KL Rahul 7 Rohit Sharma 25
Hassan's line and length is a little off, and Rohit takes full advantage, hitting a powerful cut shot through point for four. The final delivery of the over is poor, too, so Rohit smashes it for six over mid-wicket. Twelve come from the over. Rohit, unsurprisingly, looks good.
7.0 India 35-0 KL Rahul 8 Rohit Sharma 26
Amir tightens things up for Pakistan with another solid over. India will certainly be happier with the start they've made, though. The opening batsmen have been largely untroubled, Rahul patiently rotating the strike and Rohit scoring his runs with confidence and urgency.
8.0 India 42-0 KL Rahul 10 Rohit Sharma 31
No surprises as Sarfaraz opts for a change of bowler. Hassan has been wayward thus far, so Wahab Riaz comes into the attack. The final ball of his first over is pulled away for four by Rohit, though. India are in control.
9.0 India 46-0 KL Rahul 12 Rohit Sharma 32
Pakistan introduce some spin, and just four runs come from Imad Wasim's first over. He's not really turning the ball, though. India's openers look comfortable.
9.1 India 47-0 KL Rahul 13 Rohit Sharma 32
A huge chance for a run out is missed! There's confusion between the batsmen and Rohit looks for a second run that isn't on. He's left stranded in the middle, but Fakhar Zaman in the field throws to the wrong end. That would have been a big wicket for Pakistan.
10.0 India 53-0 KL Rahul 14 Rohit Sharma 37
Wahab's second over ends with a loose, wide delivery, which Rohit latches onto, cutting it for four more. It brings up 50 without loss for India, and that missed chance of a run out could prove damaging.
11.0 India 62-0 KL Rahul 22 Rohit Sharma 38
Rahul gets in on the act with a clever sweep shot to the boundary. India take nine runs from Wasim's over, but there's more unconvincing running. Rohit is forced to dive across the line after a quick single. A direct hit from Shadab Khan would've been the end for Rohit, but he misses the stumps.
11.5 India 79-0 KL Rahul 27 Rohit Sharma 50
Brilliant from Rohit! Shadab Khan, after missing the chance to run him out, comes into bowl, and India's opener sets about smashing him around the ground. His first ball is short and wide, so Rohit drives it to the boundary. Then comes a full toss, which is thrashed 91 metres for six, and another four runs. It brings up another exceptional half century for Rohit, off just 34 balls.
