From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A dominant India beat Pakistan by 89 runs via Duckworth-Lewis method in a rain-hit group match at Old Trafford to maintain their unbeaten World Cup record against their arch-rivals on Sunday.

Put into bat in a stop-start match, India posted a commanding 336-5 with Rohit Sharma (140) smashing his second century of the tournament.

Skipper Virat Kohli (77) and KL Rahul (57) also got fifty but Mohammad Amir's (3-47) tight death-overs spell denied India a 350-plus total in the sold out contest between the arch-rivals.

A century stand between Fakhar Zaman (62) and Babar Azam (48) kept alive Pakistan's hopes until they suffered a batting collapse and finished on 212-6 in 40 overs chasing a revised target of 302.

Kuldeep Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Vijay Shankar claimed two wickets each for India who now have a 7-0 record against Pakistan in World Cup.

35.0 Pakistan 166-6 Imad Wasim 22 Shadab Khan 1

Shadab Khan is the next man in for Pakistan. He may not get much time to bat, though. The clouds are getting more and more ominous and it looks quite likely that rain will stop play soon.

Rain stops play

The covers are coming on and the players are heading off the pitch. Pakistan are 86 runs behind the DLS par score, so this doesn't help them.

It looks like this shower might spell the end for this game. The result, at this point, is inevitable anyway.

Update

Still no sign of the covers coming off. The cut-off point is at 7:15pm, so if it's still raining by then India will win by virtue of DRS.

Callum Rice-Coates16 June 2019 18:39

The covers are coming off! We may yet have more cricket.

Update

Play will restart at 7:10pm. The suggestion is that Pakistan will need 136 in five remaining overs, which definitely doesn't make this feel like a waste of time.

Callum Rice-Coates16 June 2019 18:58

Pakistan need 136 off 30 balls at 27.2 runs per over

Which isn't going to happen. The players are back out now. Pakistan are going to have to come out swinging, unless they want to limit the damage to their NNR.

If Pakistan lose - which is almost certain - they will need to win their remaining four games in the competition to have a chance of reaching the semi-finals.

36.0 Pakistan 172-6 Imad Wasim 24 Shadab Khan 4

Chahal bowls the first over after the restart and Pakistan take just six runs from it. They've got no intention of trying to win.

37.0 Pakistan 182-6 Imad Wasim 27 Shadab Khan 11

Shadab thrashes the ball back down the ground to end Bumrah's over with a boundary. Ten runs come from it.
