Eoin Morgan’s men survived the drama of a super over after New Zealand's 241-8 was matched by England with Mark Wood run out from the final ball of the innings. Ben Stokes, who scored 84 in the chase, then returned alongside Jos Buttler to hit 15 from six balls before Martin Guptill was run out in dramatic fashion handing the tournament hosts the win.
Here's how one of the most dramatic matches in history played out:

19.4 - NZL 90-1, Williamson 23, Nicholls 40, Rashid 0-13 (1.4)
A more orthodox sweep for Williamson brings two more for New Zealand's skipper.
20.1 - NZL 94-1, Williamson 27, Nicholls 40, Wood 0-19 (3.1)
Williamson drives Wood out to the cover boundary but Jonny Bairstow sprints around the rope, dives and saves one run.
20.4 - NZL 97-1, Williamson 27, Nicholls 43, Wood 0-22 (3.4)
More good fielding, this time from Rashid, keeps a potential boundary down to two. He then takes a single off the next ball.
21.2 - NZL 100-1, Williamson 29, Nicholls 44, Rashid 0-16 (2.2)
Two singles off the first two ball of Rashid's third over brings up New Zealand's 100. The second fifty runs of that 100 came in only 48 balls.
22.0 - NZL 102-1, Williamson 30, Nicholls 45, Rashid 0-18 (3.0)
Four runs off the over. New Zealand are starting to edge in front off this game but a wicket would change that.
Morgan looks to Plunkett to get one. He comes on at the Nursery End.
22.3 - NZL 103-1, Williamson 30, Nicholls 46, Plunkett 0-20 (3.3)
Nicholls hits the ball to mid-on and goes for one.
REVIEW England think they have Williamson caught behind but it's been given not out.
GONE! Plunkett gets Williamson!
There's a spike on ultra edge and Kane Williamson has to go!
Williamson c Buttler b Plunkett 30 (53) - NZL 103-2
23.0 - NZL 103-2, Taylor 0, Nicholls 46, Plunkett 1-20 (4.0)
Plunkett is the man, he gets extra bounce and Williamson couldn't help himself when the drive was offered up. Ross Taylor is the new batsman and England have got themselves back into the game.
