World Cup final: Eoin Morgan determined to seize 'huge opportunity' for England

England won the Cricket World Cup after beating New Zealand in a thriller at Lord’s.

Eoin Morgan’s men survived the drama of a super over after New Zealand's 241-8 was matched by England with Mark Wood run out from the final ball of the innings. Ben Stokes, who scored 84 in the chase, then returned alongside Jos Buttler to hit 15 from six balls before Martin Guptill was run out in dramatic fashion handing the tournament hosts the win.

Here's how one of the most dramatic matches in history played out:

England captain Eoin Morgan: "Absolutely unbelievable, I still can't quite believe it. A packed house at Lord's - the support has been incredible from the very beginning of the tournament and we've managed to pull it off. It's such a good feeling.

"I thought it was over when Chris Woakes got out but then Liam Plunkett got us back into the game and we had the rub of the green, with Ben's overthrows - I don't know who you described that on commentary.

"In the super over, Ben continued to have a great day out with Jos. A day to remember."

More reaction from Eoin Morgan: "There was certainly doubt as to whether we'd even make the semi-final and I'd never allow myself to imagine winning the World Cup. Cynical me, I guess.

"It was an easy decision to bowl Jofra in the Super Over. He's our best yorker bowler, one of the best in the world and we asked him to do what he's been doing. He's a guy with the world at his feet. He's been incredible throughout the World Cup.

"I've said incredible 50 times since lifting the trophy. Our fans are the best people on the planet. We had two must win games and we scraped through and we continued it on to today.

"Thank you for the support over the last four years."

I'll leave you with this, the only picture needed to sum up that achievement. What a day! What a game! What a tournament!

England are the World Cup Champions!
