From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Australia continued their strong start to the World Cup edging the West Indies at Trent Bridge.

The match looked to be in the West Indies' hands when they reduced Australia to 79-5 but Steve Smith and Nathan Coulter-Nile both played important knocks to help set a 289 target.

Mitchell Starc then took five wickets as Chris Gayle and co. ended 15 runs shy. Here's how it played out.

11.0 Australia 54-4 Steve Smith 9 Marcus Stoinis 8

Andre Russell is definitely struggling out there and is rubbing his troublesome left knee with increasingly regularity.

12.0 Australia 60-4 Steve Smith 14 Marcus Stoinis 9

Tidy over from Carlos Brathwaite. The carnage of those first 10 overs has relaxed a touch, but Australia are by no means getting back into this , although as we type this Steve Smith opens the face, calves a shot from the back foot and finds the boundary. That shot takes some technique, excellent stuff.

13.0 Australia 68-4 Steve Smith 14 Marcus Stoinis 17

Jason Holder calls himself up as he looks to give Australia something else to think about. He seem to be getting something from the pitch, but Stoinis drives a short one for four.

You feel Holder could push the batsman onto their back foot a little more as Stoinis pulls of an absolute peach to slam the ball along the deck, past Holder and for another four.

Holder has just released some of the pressure that his bowlers built up with that expensive over, going for eight.

14.0 Australia 72-4 Steve Smith 16 Marcus Stoinis 18

Smith is showing very little intention of attacking short balls after watching so many of his colleges falling for that trick earlier this morning. He's moving his feet very well and putting himself into a position to get out the way.

Right, that's drinks.

15.0 Australia 75-4 Steve Smith 18 Marcus Stoinis 19

Jason Holder finds a better line and length to begin the over, offering Smith and Stoinis very little to attack.

16.0 Australia 79-4 Steve Smith 22 Marcus Stoinis 18

Smith is forced into a swift u-turn after looking for a quick single, but Stoinis is not interested at all as several West Indies fielders begin to circle.

Clever shot from Smith to recover from the back-foot to find the short boundary at Trent Bridge. You just sense that he has found his rhythm here.

16.1 Australia 79-5

WICKET! Marcus Stoinis (18) b Jason Holder c Nicholas Pooran

Straight to short mid-wicket!

It's a slightly short ball and Stoinis doesn't give himself too much time to watch it and pulls a shot right at Pooran.

Australia in real trouble here.

17.0 Australia 79-5 Steve Smith 22 Alex Carey 0

Vice-captain Alex Carey is in, not before he is stopped for a word by Smith, who is presumably urging him to keep his cool. This is Australia's last chance to get a decent partnership going.

With over 30 overs to go, Carey is happy to play conservatively and presumably let Smith do the scoring.

17.1 Australia 79-5 Steve Smith 22 Alex Carey 0

The score predictor is suggesting Austrlia could still get 261, you feel that they would take that without a second thought if someone offered that to them now.
