From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Australia continued their strong start to the World Cup edging the West Indies at Trent Bridge.

The match looked to be in the West Indies' hands when they reduced Australia to 79-5 but Steve Smith and Nathan Coulter-Nile both played important knocks to help set a 289 target.

Mitchell Starc then took five wickets as Chris Gayle and co. ended 15 runs shy. Here's how it played out.

45.3 West Indies 252-7

WICKET! Carlos Brathwaite 16 b Mitchell Starc c Aaron Finch.

Mitch Starc begins his penultimate over with two dot balls...then gets Carlos Braithwaite!

That, you feel makes Australia favourites to go on and win this from here. It's all on Jason Holder to deliver a finish as Ashley Nurse joins the action.

45.5 West Indies 252-8

WICKET! Jason Holder 51 b Mitchell Starc c Adam Zampa.

That is that, surely!

Holder tries to get a single to get him on strike for the next over, but horribly mistimes is and Adam Zampa is at third man to take an easy catch.

46 West Indies 252-8 Sheldon Cottrell 0 Ashley Nurse 0

Cottrell and Nurse need 37 runs from 24 balls. It's a mountainous task they face.

46 West Indies 255-8 Sheldon Cottrell 1 Ashley Nurse 2

Marcus Stoinis is called in for his third over. Nurse is on strike and wildly swings for the first three balls then survives a LBW appeal.

Cottrell is on strike and swats one away for a single. The crowd here has gone a little quiet....

West Indies require 34 runs of 18 balls.

46 West Indies 255-8 Sheldon Cottrell 1 Ashley Nurse 2

It feels a long time ago that West Indies had Australia at 79-5...

Mitchell Stac begins his final over, you feel that this has become a procession to the eventual conclusion now.

47.3 West Indies 256-9

WICKET! Sheldon Cottrell (1) b Mitchell Starc

Bowled! There's stumps and bails flying everywhere as Mitchell Starc obliterates Cottrell's stumps after he steps aside and goes for a big hit. Sigh.

48 West Indies 256-9 Oshane Thomas 0 Ashley Nurse 2

Mitchell Starc (5-46) finishes his final over, it's been some performance from him today.

Australia beat West Indies by 15 runs

The West Indies began with the speed of an express train and had Australia scrambling at 79-5 at one point before Steve Smith and Nathan Coulter-Nile put on an impressive partnership to haul their side to 288.

Chris Gayle never really got going with the bat, nor did Evin Lewis, or Nicholas Pooran or anyone to be honest as Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins wrecked havoc.
