From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The oldest tournament in golf returns to Carnoustie, one of the most fearsome courses on the rotation, for what promises to be a true test of the golfing elite. The weather won't help either. After a hot summer the Angus course is baked to a crisp giving even the tour's shortest hitters a chance to blast their way around this week. But watch out for those fairway bunkers.
World number one Dustin Johnson, defending champion Jordan Spieth and Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy all hoping to be in contention come the back nine on Sunday. Don't rule out a charge from Tiger Woods either with the course conditions playing into the favour of the 14-time major winner.
We will have all the latest news, scores, updates and more from our man on the course, Ed Malyon, plus analysis from elsewhere right here.

Jordan Spieth gets himself in some bother up against a wall in a bunker on the 15th. He has to knock it out, but overcooks it and now plays his fourth from thick rough.
A long bogey putt is up next.
Two gone for Spieth with three tough holes still to come.
He slides to one under.
Meanwhile Ryan Moore is flying. A fourth birdie at the sixth and he is in to a tie for second.
Haotong Li has started with a birdie. He finished third thanks to a final round 63 last year at only 21 years of age. Prospect.
Ed Malyon has also been speaking to Danny Willett, who opened up on his journey back from the 'pitch black'.
A very commendable 72 for Nicolai Højgaard. The amateur looks to be in a battle with Sam Locke for the Silver Medal this weekend, with the Scot currently one under through ten. Yuxin Lin and Jovan Rebula are the other amateurs in the field.
Darren Clarke comes home. It is an 82 unfortunately for the popular Northern Irishman after double-bogeying the last. The highest round of the day, with Open debutant Andrew Landry and 2001 champion David Duval's both scoring nine over par 80s.
A welcome boost for Kiradech Aphibarnrat, pitching in for a birdie three at the 17th. Five bogeys and a double early on have rather killed his round, and he'll head down the 18th at three over.
