From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The oldest tournament in golf returns to Carnoustie, one of the most fearsome courses on the rotation, for what promises to be a true test of the golfing elite. The weather won't help either. After a hot summer the Angus course is baked to a crisp giving even the tour's shortest hitters a chance to blast their way around this week. But watch out for those fairway bunkers.
World number one Dustin Johnson, defending champion Jordan Spieth and Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy all hoping to be in contention come the back nine on Sunday. Don't rule out a charge from Tiger Woods either with the course conditions playing into the favour of the 14-time major winner.
We will have all the latest news, scores, updates and more from our man on the course, Ed Malyon, plus analysis from elsewhere right here.

Three pars for Spieth, Aphibarnrat and Rose.
Kevin Kisner also does well to save par at 16 after going long off the tee on the par three. Retains his lead.
Patrick Cantlay dices with danger off the tee on the 18th, but somehow avoids getting wet.
Still not in great shape but at -3 he will be if he can make par.
Everything's dropping for Kevin Kisner. He makes another long par putt to stay at five-under.
Erik Van Rooyen and Matthew Southgate are both having good seasons tee-to-green. With the putting surfaces playing well and aiding those on the course, making greens in regulation ensures good scoring, and thus the pair are early front-runners.
The next group to get underway looks extremely impressive.
2016 Open Champion Henrik Stenson and 2016 USPGA winner Jimmy Walker may both threaten, but it is playing partner Tommy Fleetwood who many think could win this weekend.
Fleetwood holds the course at Carnoustie, hitting a 63 at last year's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship (held at Carnoustie, St.Andrews and Kingsbarns). Runner-up at the US Open at Shinnecock Hills last month, Fleetwood will hope to go one better and secure a maiden major championship.
The trio get underway at 12.31.
A Leaderboard Update:
-5 Kevin Kisner (17)
-4 Erik Van Rooyen 67, Brandon Stone (14)
-3 Yusaku Miyazato (13)
-2 8 players, including Jordan Spieth and Danny Willett
Two shots gone for Yusaku Miyazato, and he drops off that leaderboard down to one-under.
Kevin Kisner just about holds another par putt after nicely playing out of a bunker on the difficult 18th. He finishes with a 66 and snares the clubhouse lead.
Promising start for Byeong Hun An. The 2015 BMW PGA Championship winner opens birdie, birdie.
