From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The oldest tournament in golf returns to Carnoustie, one of the most fearsome courses on the rotation, for what promises to be a true test of the golfing elite. The weather won't help either. After a hot summer the Angus course is baked to a crisp giving even the tour's shortest hitters a chance to blast their way around this week. But watch out for those fairway bunkers.
World number one Dustin Johnson, defending champion Jordan Spieth and Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy all hoping to be in contention come the back nine on Sunday. Don't rule out a charge from Tiger Woods either with the course conditions playing into the favour of the 14-time major winner.
We will have all the latest news, scores, updates and more from our man on the course, Ed Malyon, plus analysis from elsewhere right here.

Bogey putt for Kiradech Aphibarnrat after two ill-advised shots leave him in trouble on the third. No dice, and it will be a double.
And Brandon Stone moves to three-under. A lovely, confident putt on eight. Two South Africans in the top-five.
Spare a thought for Brady Schnell who has hit seven bogeys in his last ten holes to sit in last place. One of those days, and a reminder of how brutal links golf can be...
Haraldur Magnus is on the tee now with Zander Lombard and James Robinson. He becomes the first ever golfer from Iceland to play at The Open.
A lovely controlled pitch from Jordan Spieth and he'll have another short birdie putt.
Erik Van Rooyen has a nervy par putt but makes it and is a last-hole par away from a 66 and a clubhouse lead.
Kevin Chappell meanwhile rifles a putt from serious distance and finds the hole for an eagle to move to three-under. He has three previous major top-tens.
And Spieth makes the putt. -2 for the defending champion.
24 players are under par, including European Amateur Champion Nicolai Højgaard. Course playing nicely.
Troublesome times for Jon Rahm. Fortunately, his lie isn't awful and he is able to find the green with his third at the fourth. Still, a difficult par putt and that looks like a five for the Spaniard.
The wind has begun to blow at Carnoustie, which means the best conditions of the day have probably been and gone. Van Rooyen is in a little trouble on the 18th after chipping out of a fairway bunker and going through the green with his third, while Justin Rose and Jordan Spieth both leave their balls close on five.
