Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.England are back in the game that no one wants to be involved in as they take on Belgium for the accolade of finishing third at the World Cup, which should they win would be their best finish at the tournament since winning it in 1966.
It will be the second time the two teams have played after meeting in the final round of group stage fixtures, where Belgium ran out 1-0 winners to secure top spot in Group G.
Adnan Januzaj scored the only goal of the game there – that may actually have cost Belgium a World Cup final spot given their tougher route – but he doesn't get a second chance to shine as Belgium named their strongest team possible in St Petersburg, with England in contract making numerous changes..

Odds
Belgium: 6/5
England: 12/5
Draw: 14/5
56 mins: Good alert goalkeeping from Jordan Pickford. Kevin De Bruyne slides a nutmegged pass through to Romelu Lukaku who's heavy first choice gives Pickford just enough time to get off his line and smother the ball
60 mins: Lukaku OFF, Mertens ON. That comes after that awful first touch meant he squandered a sitter. Also, bar a miracle in the final, means Harry Kane will win the Golden Boot
63 mins: A brilliant challenge from Delph to get back just as Meunier was about to fire a cross dangerously close to Pickford's goal
Belgium have a corner, Kompany with the back heel but it's eventually cleared away
65 mins: Trippier with another dangerous cross into the box and England have a corner. Maguire and Stones breaking forward into midfield on more occasions as the game goes on. England's corner is to Kane who mishits his effort, and Belgium break forward, ending in a rare misplaced pass from De Bruyne
69 mins: Dier with a shot from range as play opened up for him. He didn't quite catch it well enough and it's comfortable for Courtois
70 mins: OFF THE LINE! A one-two with Dier and Rashford the former dinked it over Courtois and Alderweireld gets back to slide it off the line! Brilliant defending
71 mins: Kompany fouls Rashford and England have a free kick around 30 yards out. England starting to ask some questions of Belgium
74 mins: Trippier with another delivery from a similarly placed free kick, and Maguire gets his head on it. Just wide of goal, but definitely an improved England in this second half
