From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

England take on Brazil in an international friendly this afternoon. Phil Neville's side are safely through to next summer's World Cup but now the real hard work begins as they look to step up their preparations for the finals in France.

They face the South Americans on Saturday at Meadow Lane followed by Australia at Craven Cottage on Tuesday in what should be a good test of just how far this team has come.

Another injury concern for Brazil as Ludmila goes down holding her knee after a challenge from Jordan Nobbs. The resulting free-kick is a saved comfortably by Telford.

Now it's Brazil centre-back Bruna who is down and holding her knee. Things aren't going too well for the away side so far.

Parris eases past Camila again and sends a shot flying wide. The Brazil left-back is having a very, very hard time of it so far this afternoon.

Excellent forward play from England and Parris is in the thick of it once more. This time her shot is well blocked. The Lionesses look keen to extend their lead before half-time.

Bronze is yellow carded after a late challenge around 30 yards from goal. Camila's resulting free-kick hits the wall.

We're into three added minutes at the end of an impressive half for England.

There's the half-time whistle. Phil Neville's side lead at the break after Fran Kirby headed home in the second minute. Nikita Parris has been extremely lively in attack but England were unable to extend their lead before half-time.

An unfortunate half for Brazil. The crowd at Meadow Lane were far from happy when World Player of the Year Marta was forced off with an injury midway through the first period. Defender Bruna was also substituted after picking up a knee injury.

Phil Neville will be delighted with his side's performance so far. The Lionesses have looked devastating in the final third with the likes of Nikita Parris, Lucy Bronze, Fran Kirby and Rachel Daly all causing Brazil real problems.

If there's one negative for England, it'll be that they have failed to extend their lead. They might have had a penalty if Parris had not stayed on her feet after a challenge from Camila, who's had a torrid time at left-back. More of the same and you'd expect the Lionesses to be comfortable winners this afternoon.
