England beat Brazil – as it happened
All the action from Meadow Lane
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.England take on Brazil in an international friendly this afternoon. Phil Neville's side are safely through to next summer's World Cup but now the real hard work begins as they look to step up their preparations for the finals in France.
They face the South Americans on Saturday at Meadow Lane followed by Australia at Craven Cottage on Tuesday in what should be a good test of just how far this team has come.

90 minutes
Williams receives a booking for the tackle that lead to Brazil's free-kick. Bronze heads away.
90 + 2 minutes
We're into four minutes added time at the end of the second half.
90 + 3 minutes
Nervy moments for England. Kerolin skips past two players and sees her shot blocked in the box.
The full-time whistle goes. A good days work for Phil Neville's side at Meadow Lane. A header from Fran Kirby after just two minutes was enough to separate the sides. England Women 1-0 Brazil Women.
The Lionesses will be happy with that. They are ranked five places ahead of Brazil in the world rankings, but the away side had some dangerous players in the final third. Marta's first half injury won't have helped, but England controlled the game throughout.
Nikita Parris and Fran Kirby were perhaps England's star players this afternoon and both had chances to extend the Lionesses' lead either side of half-time.
Phil Neville's side can now look forward to their clash with Australia Women at Craven Cottage on Tuesday as they continue their preparations for next summer's World Cup.
That's all from us this afternoon.
