From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. England's Jodie Taylor scored the only goal as they broke the deadlock against Argentina just past the hour to secure a 1-0 win and reach the last 16 at the Women's World Cup on Friday.

England's Nikita Parrish had a first-half penalty saved by Vanina Correa, but Taylor got on the end of Beth Mead's cross in the 62nd minute to give her side their second straight win.

England, who moved on to six points in Group D, join hosts France, Germany and Italy into the knockout phase. Re-live the action below:

Correa is having a fantastic game!

Poor defending from Argentina gifts the ball to Fran Kirby who sends Beth Mead free into the box. Mead takes a shot across Correa but the Argentinian goalkeeper sticks out a leg and deflects it away from goal. England denied again!

Two minutes of added time at the end of this half. Parris wins a corner for England, can they knick one before half-time?

No, they can't.

Argentina defend the corner well and send the ball out to Banini, she holds the ball up and finds Jaimes. Moore takes the ball off her but too forcefully and the referee puts her in the book as well.

The whistle goes and it's half-time in La Havre. Correa the star performer so far.

It's been a dominating but frustrating first 45 minutes for England. Argentina have been tough to break down but England have been able to do it on a few occasions but haven't been ruthless in front of goal.

Nikita Parris will be ruing the way she took the penalty but Vanina Correa made a number of quality saves and without her Argentina could have been out of this game already.

Fair play.

SECOND HALF: England 0 - 0 Argentina

45 minutes for England to liven up this game. One goal will completely change the way this match is being played. The chances will come, patience and composure are key in this second half.

Argentina restart the match, they hit it long but Abbie McManus wins the ball for England.

Moore sends a diagonal ball out to Parris who runs forward and whips a quick cross into the box. Beth Mead gambles and comes inside but the ball sails over her to the far post.

A little scare for England as Sachs sends a long ball forward, McManus misjudges the flight of the ball and Jaimes gets in behind, Houghton comes over to cover before Telford boots it away. Jaimes is ruled offside but Argentina got in on goal there.

51 mins: England 0 - 0 Argentina

Greenwood is bombs forward on the overlap and is taken out by Bonsegundo to the left side of the area. Greenwood delivers the free kick into the box aiming for Houghton. The ball is just over her and Moore follows up with a slight header. The ball trickles into the middle of the box and Parris runs onto it striking the ball first time.

It's powerfully hit but Correa reacts and palms it away, great save!

McManus makes a strong run forward, she gives the ball back to Greenwood who slots it to Mead. Mead passes to Kirby who sends a ball over the top to Parris but Stabile heads it out.

Jodie Taylor sends a ball out wide to Parris. Parris runs it to the right hand edge of the box and flicks a cross into the centre of the area. Taylor wins a free header and sends it into the hands of Correa.

What a chance for England!
