From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. England's Jodie Taylor scored the only goal as they broke the deadlock against Argentina just past the hour to secure a 1-0 win and reach the last 16 at the Women's World Cup on Friday.

England's Nikita Parrish had a first-half penalty saved by Vanina Correa, but Taylor got on the end of Beth Mead's cross in the 62nd minute to give her side their second straight win.

England, who moved on to six points in Group D, join hosts France, Germany and Italy into the knockout phase. Re-live the action below:

England look sharper and stronger than their Argentine opponents but the South American side are defending well. A flurry of quick passes set Jill Scott free down the right, she gives the ball to Parris who runs it into the box before getting tackled.

Bronze and Houghton combine to move the ball forward up the pitch. Bronze drifts wide on the right wing and receives the ball. She delivers a cross into the box and finds Scott who wins the header but she sends it safely into the hands of Correa.

England win the ball back and Lucy Bronze is in the wars again. Stabile dives into a challenge on her and gives away a free kick, it was a dodgy tackle and Stabile is lucky to avoid a card.

England win another free kick, this one closer to the Argentine goal. Houghton stands over it, lines it up and hits one! It curls towards the near corner but is too high and sails easily over the crossbar.

Lucy Bronze makes a good interception and sends Scott in behind the defence. Scott tries to pick out a pass in the box but the ball takes a deflection and Correa smothers it.

Patience is the key for England. They are dominating possession and are creating chances, a more clear cut chance will materialise if England maintain their composure.

Sole Jaimes wins a free kick for Argentina and Benitez sends it into the box, Bravo flicks it on but Carly Telford claims the ball.

Bonsegundo fouls Beth Mead on the left wing and England can put the ball into the box here. Kirby plays a short ball before running into the box and collecting a ball that is sent over the defence. She wins a corner for England, it's also played short before Moore has a shot on goal. The ball is deflected for a second England corner. It comes into the box and Parris heads it wide.

Good pressure from England.

33 mins: England 0 - 0 Argentina

Despite the penalty miss, there is a chant of 'Football's coming home'  from what sounds like a group young, energetic England fans.

Argentina have been buoyed up from the save and England look a little frustrated. Greenwood fouls Bonsegundo deep in Argentina's half.

36 mins: England 0 - 0 Argentina

Kirby sends the ball to Mead who runs it into the box and tries to take on Barroso but loses the ball. Argentina's one-on-one defending has been superb so far. Equally as good as when they played Japan on Monday.

39 mins: England 0 - 0 Argentina

Kirby gets the ball on the edge of the box and tries to play it through to Taylor making the run. The ball is blocked and Kirby wins it back before setting it up for Jill Scott who fires one wide of goal.

England attack again with Lucy Bronze sprinting down the right, Cometti loses her but brings her down anyway and gets booked for her efforts.

The free kick is delivered by Beth Mead, she finds Scott who taps it to Taylor. All she needs to do is beat the keeper but she can't.
