The 2023/24 Premier League season is under way and you can follow every game and every goal right here with The Independent.

This year sees Manchester City try to defend their crown and claim a historic fourth title in succession. Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering City, who also won the Champions League and FA Cup last season, will have to see off Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and the rest to claim an unprecedented sixth league title in seven years.

Meanwhile Luton Town are making their first appearance in the Premier League, having risen from non-league in an incredible decade of progress. They followed Championship winners Burnley and second-placed Sheffield United in earning promotion to the top flight.

Follow the latest action from the Premier League below.

West Ham United vs Brighton & Hove Albion

WIDE! Bowen leads a counter-attacking charge before sliding down the left for Benrahma, who cuts inside a wall of Brighton defenders before curling a right-footed whipped attempt just wide to Steele's left. It is much better from the Hammers after their slow start.

Bowen is visibly frustrated by the referee's decision after Van Hecke goes down when the pair contest for a loose ball inside Brighton's defensive third. The Seagulls restart with a free-kick as this game continues to improve.

CLOSE! Gross plays a bluff and crosses the free-kick towards the back post, from which Welbeck heads back across goal. Areola tips away from the initial header before the West Ham goalkeeper denies a right-footed Hinshelwood strike from close range. That marks Brighton's first real chance of this game.

Ward-Prowse swings the left-sided corner towards the far post, where Van Hecke clears. Bowen then delivers another cross but Mavropanos can only head well over when unchallenged near the six-yard area.

GREAT STOP! Bowen causes Van Hecke all sorts of problems before Benrahma clips a decent cross towards the back post. A headed clearance loops up for Ward-Prowse, whose left-footed volley is kicked behind by some fine Steele reflexes.

OFF THE POST! This is better from West Ham. Soucek has acres in the middle to get his head up and slot through for Bowen, whose right-footed drive is tipped onto the left-hand post by a stretching Steele. A belated offside flag cuts short the excitement, but that was marginal and will go down as a good chance that VAR may have reviewed.

Fornals dances inside from the left flank before offloading to Ward-Prowse, whose inswinging delivery does not matter as Soucek is offside at the back post. The West Ham midfielder also seemed to nudge Milner over, with the chance going amiss due to that foul.

Benrahma leaves a little space for Emerson down the left flank as the full-back cuts in and drags a poor right-footed attempt well wide of Steele's target. Hinshelwood, a makeshift right-back, does not look too comfortable when it comes to defending.

CHANCE! Buonanotte finds space outside the area before his left-footed strike deflects off two West Ham defenders. Areola appears to go the wrong way for a moment before regaining his footing and making a routine save in the middle of his goal. The Frenchman will not be beaten from that sort of range too easily.
