Manchester City are reigning champions after a dominant 2020/21 season and Pep Guardiola's side are favourites to win it again boasting as they do one of the best squads in Europe.
European champions Chelsea have proven they have what it takes to dethrone City, however, having done it in last season's Champions League final and will be hoping to add a domestic title to the one won in Porto.
Liverpool were winners back in 2020 ending a 30-year wait for league glory and Jurgen Klopp is sure to have them back challenging again at the sharp end this season too while Manchester United will be looking to be back in the title picture with Cristiano Ronaldo returning to his former club in the summer.
It's not all about the action at the top though with Norwich, Watford and Brentford promoted to the top tier for 2020/21 and hoping to hold their own against the best English football has to offer and avoid the drop.

Both managers will be fairly pleased with what they've seen so far in the main, but the lack of chances will be something that will worry them. West Ham did look the more likely to score, but only managed one shot on target, which came in the fourth minute. Villa looked comfortable on the ball, but need to find a way to break down West Ham to get into the box.

It's goalless at the break between West Ham and Aston Villa. It was end-to-end at times in the first half, but with neither side testing the goalkeeper too much. The best chances fell to West Ham, with Fornals drilling an effort just wide before Soucek glanced a header past the same post. Coutinho had a great opportunity at the other end after Ramsey played him in at close range, but Fabianski smothered the shot.

Villa win another free-kick down the left, but it's a poor one from McGinn this time. Zouma makes the clearance at the front of the crowd and Luiz is also waved back onto the pitch.

Soucek goes through the back of Ings to win the ball, but it's judged not to be a foul, so West Ham break quickly. Cresswell finds himself in space down the left again but hits the first man with his cross this time.
