Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Premier League's January transfer window is upon us with Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea all set to be busy.

Liverpool were the summer's biggest spenders with no fewer than four new arrivals. Goalkeeper Alisson was the headline-grabber with the Brazilian already proving worth every penny of the world-record fee the Reds shelled out for the Brazilian. Could long-term target Nabil Fekir join him next month? United got a couple of new faces in through the door in the summer but it hasn't made a difference with Jose Mourinho out and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in. Will he spend them out of trouble in the January sales?

Chelsea have made the biggest splash with the signing of Borussia Dortmund's Christian Pulisic while Manchester City, Tottenham and Arsenal could all choose to dip their toes in the water as they battle for an all-important top four spot. We will have all the latest news, views, rumours, gossip and done deals right here so don't touch that dial.

Daniel Sturridge could be offered a new Liverpool contract, according to the Daily Mail.

Sturridge has six months remaining on his existing Anfield deal and can now negotiate a pre-contract arrangement with clubs outside England.

Tottenham appear resigned to losing defender Toby Alderweireld, so much so that they are already pressing on with plans to sign his replacement.

Chief football writer Miguel Delaney can reveal that Spurs are considering a £35m offer for the 22-year-old Joachim Andersen in the summer, who despite his tender age for a defender already has 16 caps for Denmark.

Currently with Sampdoria, the 6ft 2in centre-back is also attracting interest from Manchester United.

West Ham are apparently keen on Everton midfielder James McCarthy.

The Hammers are looking to bolster their midfield and see the Republic of Ireland international as the ideal addition.

The Daily Mail say they will push for a loan deal this month.

With speculation rife that Toby Alderweireld will leave Spurs in the near-future with both Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain keen on his services, the defender has spoken out to address rumours of an imminent transfer.

By extending Alderweireld's contract last week, Spurs activated a clause that allows him to leave for £25m if triggered before the final two weeks of the summer transfer window.

However, he spoke out to play down talk of an exit and has stressed that he remains committed to the Spurs cause.

Back to Manchester United now where Ashley Young could be set for a move away.

The winger/defender/wherever any manager asks him to play's contract is up at the end of the season with foreign clubs now able to negotiate with him.

One of those is said to be Inter Milan, according to the Mirror, who want to snap up the former England man for free in the summer.

Some more on Tammy Abraham and that proposed move to Wolves could be off.

Sky Sports are reporting that he has turned down a switch to the Premier League which would appear to leave him staying at Aston Villa for the remainder of the season.

More as we get it.
