From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Manchester United have money to spend - and have already signed Victor Lindelof for £35m - but may be forced to shell out as much as £70m for both Alvaro Morata, while Andrea Belotti looks like he will stay at Torinio.
Chelsea's main man, Diego Costa, looks like he will be on his way after being told he is surplus to requirements by manager Antonio Conte.
Manchester City already have two players with Monaco's Bernardo Silva and Benfica goalkeeper Ederson in through the door, while Arsenal have snapped up Schalke's Sead Kolasinac on a free.
Liverpool are closing in on a deal for Mohamed Salah as they continue to negotiate with Roma over a fee but won't be adding Virgil van Dijk after being forced to apologise to Southampton for an illegal approach.

Done deal!
Jordan Pickford's move to Everton is confirmed and it is a club record deal...
Leicester have signed defender Harry Maguire from Hull for an undisclosed fee.
The 24-year-old had a year remaining on his contract at Hull but following the club's relegation from the Premier League he has joined the Foxes on a five-year deal.
Maguire becomes the club's first signing since Craig Shakespeare agreed a three-year deal as full-time Leicester boss last week.
Conte frustrated by lack of business at Chelsea
Antonio Conte is reportedly upset at Chelsea's lack of business in the transfer window so far this summer.
Not only that but the Blues hierarchy are said to be unhappy with Conte's handling of Diego Costa, the star striker who seems increasingly likely to move back to Atletico Madrid.
So much so that Gazzetta dello Sport says there is a 'mutual tension' between the club and their manager and while it is too early to talk about his departure, the Italian paper says 'the waters are choppy'.
King Conte surely couldn't leave after just one season, could he?
