From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Blues were busy this window, with the signing Gonzalo Higuaín from Juventus for £8.1m and allowing Álvaro Morata to join Atletico Madrid on loan. They also signed Christian Pulisic, who will remain on loan at Borussia Dortmund for the rest of the season.
But further incomings were not to be but they did manage to keep hold of Willian and Callum Hudson-Odoi despite strong interest from PSG and Bayern Munich respectively.

There are still more than six hours left in the transfer window, but it does not appear that there will be any arrivals at Chelsea before the 11pm deadline.
A move for Abdoulaye Doucoure never materialised (with Watford stating they never so much as received a bid for the midfielder), while PSG's pursuit of Willian briefly threatened to spice up deadline day but never progressed beyond the rumour stage.
Michy Batshuayi is the name to watch. Chelsea have agreed loan deals with Real Betis and West Ham and offered the player to Tottenham, but have found the Belgian reluctant to move to either of the former pair, and there is no interest from Spurs.
We haven't heard a peep on Michy Batshuayi since reports emerged that the player was not keen on a move to Real Betis or West Ham.
Less than five hours left in the window - will the Belgian find a new home?
Everton have been linked, but it would have to be a permanent deal with Kurt zoom already loaned to Merseyside, and with a £35 million fee quoted the Toffees will not be pursuing a deal.
7pm nears. Four hours left in the January transfer window.
It seems a near certainty that there will not be an incoming at Chelsea this evening, and a couple of potential outgoings have collapsed today, with Gary Cahill purportedly turning down moves to Juventus, Monaco and Fulham, while Davide Zappacosta's move to Lazio was nixed, too.
The Danny Drinkwater chatter never really got off the ground.
Thus it is really only Michy Batshuayi among the Chelsea squad who could be on the move tonight.
