From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Blues were busy this window, with the signing Gonzalo Higuaín from Juventus for £8.1m and allowing Álvaro Morata to join Atletico Madrid on loan. They also signed Christian Pulisic, who will remain on loan at Borussia Dortmund for the rest of the season.
But further incomings were not to be but they did manage to keep hold of Willian and Callum Hudson-Odoi despite strong interest from PSG and Bayern Munich respectively.

Another potential outgoing has been churned out of the rumour mill - CalcioMercato in Italy are reporting that Andreas Christensen may be on the market, with Inter and Juventus interested in the centre-back.
Sky are suggesting that Spurs were offered Michy Batshuayi on loan, but that there was no interest from Mauricio Pochetitno's side in taking the Belgian on board despite Harry Kane's continued absence.
While we wait for developments regarding Chelsea's transfer business, have a read of Cesar Azplicueta's debrief of the debrief after defeat at Bournemouth last night.
It has all gone quiet.
It now seems unlikely that Chelsea will be bringing anyone in before the deadline, while talk of Willian's departure has died down, too.
Youth player Charlie Wakefield is expected to join Coventry City after having a number of trials elsewhere, with Chelsea set to cancel his contract, so that's, well, something...
Sky Sports' Kaveh Solhekol is reporting that Michy Batshuayi is keen to stay in the Premier League, but is not interested in moving to West Ham, or indeed to Real Betis, the two clubs that have agreed deals with Chelsea to take the striker on loan.
Tottenham were offered the player but will not be pursuing a deal.
Meanwhile, Davide Zappacosta was another suggested to be headed for the Stamford Bridge exit door earlier, but Lazio and Chelsea have failed to agree a deal, according to Liam Twomey of ESPN.
It appears Zappacosta will be staying with the club.
Willian is training with the rest of the Chelsea squad at Cobham this afternoon. It seems extremely unlikely that the Brazilian will be leaving the club today.
Another Michy Batshuyai update from Sky Sports' Kaveh Solhekol: the Belgian supposedly wants £160,000 a week.
Money. Lots of it.
