Raheem Sterling sends message to Arsenal fans after completing loan move from Chelsea

The transfer window faced a frantic conclusion as Premier League clubs scrambled to complete last-minute business up to – and after – the 11pm deadline.

Raheem Sterling has completed a season-long loan move from Chelsea to Arsenal. The clubs announced the switch almost three hours after the Premier League transfer window closed. Sterling, 29, has won 82 caps for England but had found himself frozen out at Chelsea under Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea wanted to sign a striker, but top option Victor Osimhen turned down their wage offer in favour of staying at Napoli, while Ivan Toney has moved to Saudi side Al-Ahli in a £40m transfer from Brentford.

Instead, Chelsea and Manchester United have agreed on a loan a deal for winger Jadon Sancho, who is expected to depart Old Trafford. United also finally finished off a move for PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte, after Scott McTominay was sold to Napoli.

Wolves signed a trio of players, Nottingham Forest captured James-Ward Prowse on loan, as Everton made a late move for Armando Broja from Chelsea and Fulham chased Reiss Nelson from Arsenal into the small hours.

Still to come...

We are still expecting Raheem Sterling’s loan from Chelsea to Arsenal to be completed, and Jadon Sancho’s move from Manchester United to Chelsea should also be confirmed tonight (soon to be this morning in the UK). They are the two big ones we are waiting on.

Then there is Armando Broja, who looks set to join Everton on loan from Chelsea, and Reiss Nelson, heading to Fulham from Arsenal, again on loan. Maxwel Cornet’s loan move from West Ham to Southampton should also be confirmed overnight. Trevor Chalobah from Chelsea to Crystal Palace on loan is thought to be another.

That’s six of the nine...

Raheem Sterling’s Arsenal loan set to go ahead

Raheem Sterling is set to join Arsenal from Chelsea on loan after the final details were agreed between the two London clubs.

The Independent understands that Arsenal will not have to pay a loan fee for the winger, and will pay less than 50 per cent of his staggeringly high wages. It seems like a pretty good deal for all parties, though whether Sterling will get significant game time, up against Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard for a place on the left wing, remains to be seen.

Manchester United sign PSG’s Manuel Ugarte for initial £42m: ‘I will sacrifice and give everything’

Manchester United have landed their top midfield target this summer by completing the signing of Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain for an initial £42.3m.

The Uruguay international, whose fee could rise by a further £8.5m if add-ons are triggered, has signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford after passing a medical.

He joined as Scott McTominay ended his 22-year association with United by moving to Napoli for £25.7m, with the FA Cup winners also having a 10 percent sell-on clause.
