Celtic dismiss rumours over Man City interest in forward

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has dismissed the speculation linking striker Kyogo Furuhashi with a move to Manchester City as “gossip”.

The Japanese international, who has scored 51 goals since signing from Vissel Kobe in 2021, has been linked with the Premier League champions as a possible replacement for Julian Alvarez.

City have added just one player to their squad so far, winger Savinho joining from Troyes, who made his debut last weekend before going off injured at the end of the first half.

Ashley Cole has joined Lee Carsley’s backroom staff and will assist England’s interim manager during his temporary spell in charge.

The former Chelsea and Arsenal left-back is one of only nine Englishmen to win 100 caps and now links up with the senior team for the first time as a coach.

Cole has worked successfully with Carsley for the England Under-21s, helping them to win the 2023 European Championships, and they will be reunited for the Nations League games against Republic of Ireland, Greece and Finland.

Erik ten Hag urges Manchester United to build on opening win

Erik ten Hag is seeking improvements as Manchester United look to build on their opening day win in Saturday lunchtime’s trip to Brighton.

The Red Devils won 2-0 at Brighton on the final day of last season and are looking for another victory at the Amex in Saturday’s early kick-off.

“Of course (the mood) is good but it’s just one game,” Ten Hag said. “We are pleased of course with the result, also with the performance.

“We were happy with the performance but now we have to build on it, so go to the next game.

“You don’t talk about the first game. That’s the start. No, you see it after five, six games, so we have to build on this start, get a win but improve the performance.”

A Brazilian police investigation into Manchester United player Antony has been closed, according to a report from the BBC.

Dyche on Trippier

Kieran Trippier has today been linked with a move away from Newcastle with Everton being one of the more likely destinations for the 33-year-old.

Everton boss Sean Dyche jokingly addressed the speculation saying: “He’s one of many names that has come up here. As if by magic, his name comes up when we don’t have a right-back available”.

Alex Moreno leaves Villa for Forest

Aston Villa’s busy summer continues, but this time it’s outgoings rather than incomings, as Alex Moreno is the odd man out at left-back after the arrival of Ian Maatsen. With Lucas Digne also at the club, the Spaniard has no future after being Unai Emery’s first signing at the club and has sealed a move to Nottingham Forest on loan.

There’s also an option for a permanent deal for Forest, who themselves have a handful of full-backs on the books already.

Harry Toffolo, Ola Aina and Omar Richards all play left-back, as well as Moreno now, with Aina getting the nod there on the opening weekend draw with Bournemouth.

6 players expected to move on before the summer transfer window shuts

Scott McTominay

Fulham have been interested in a deal for Scotland international McTominay, but United’s reported asking price of £30m could prove a sticking point. Italian side Napoli are another possible destination, but McTominay’s departure could first require reinforcements brought into Old Trafford.
