Ilkay Gundogan completes remarkable return to Manchester City

Ilkay Gundogan has clinched his remarkable return to Manchester City by signing a one-year contract at the Etihad Stadium.

City’s Treble-winning captain has left Barcelona after a solitary season as he agreed to waive the last two years of his contract and leave on a free transfer.

Gundogan, who becomes City’s second summer signing, has agreed a one-year deal and will take the No 19 shirt.

The 33-year-old German, who scored 60 goals in 304 games in his first spell in Manchester, said he could not wait to play for City again and described Pep Guardiola as the best manager in the world.

Leicester closing in on Jordan Ayew signing

Leicester are reportedly close to signing Jordan Ayew from Crystal Palace.

The Foxes have found themselves short of attacking options, with Jamie Vardy scoring the equaliser against Tottenham on Monday.

Ayew could move for an initial £5m in a deal that could rise to £8m.

Manor Solomon to leave Spurs

Tottenham winger Manor Solomon is expected to leave the club, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 25-year-old has reportedly rejected an offer from Getafe, and wants to remain in England.

He struggled for game time at Tottenham, making just two Premier League starts and five appearances in the English top flight last season.

Mikel Arteta speaks in Arsenal press conference

Mikel Arteta was asked about Eddie Nketiah, who has been linked with a number of clubs, including Nottingham Forest.

When asked about the striker, he said: “I expect Eddie to train with us today, to be prepared for tomorrow, and that’s it. Whatever happens will happen if it’s good for everybody.”

Arteta was also asked about Raheem Sterling, who is looking for a move away from Chelsea: “My time with Raheem was exceptional. We built a really strong relationship together. He was unbelievable at that time. He taught me a lot as well, about individuals, how they think, how we support them. He is someone I have really strong feelings about.”

Asmir Begovic re-joins Everton

Asmir Begovic has re-joined Everton on a tree transfer.

The goalkeeper has not had a club since his QPR contract expired earlier this summer.

Begovic is expected to provide cover for Jordan Pickford and Joao Virginia after the previous third-choice Andy Lonergan left on a free transfer.

Begovic made 10 appearances during his previous spell at the club between 2021 and 2023.

Eddie Howe reveals Kieran Trippier latest

When asked if Kieran Trippier would stay at Newcastle, Howe said: “I can never answer these questions with absolute certainty because it’s football and the transfer window is always unpredictable, but my wish is that he stays here and continues to play for us.”

On the difficult nature of the current transfer window, Howe said: “It’s been the most difficult I’ve experienced. Without going over old ground the June part of the transfer window was incredibly difficult and now this period hasn’t exactly been easy for us either.”

Arne Slot speaks about possible future signings

Liverpool manager Arne Slot spoke to the press this morning ahead of his side’s match against Brentford on Sunday.

On not making many signings, he said: “I trust the team. I’ve said before, I have inherited a very good team, with young players. We trust them a lot. They proved that they have earned our trust.”

When asked about Giorgi Mamardashvili, he said: “If a deal is done, then you will hear from us. Until then, we don’t speak about transfers or players that re not ours.”

Scott McTominay has been linked with multiple possible moves away from Old Trafford.

Napoli are the latest to be linked with the forward, but they might want to sell Victor Osimhen, and the Italian club are also trying to sign Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea.

Aston Villa linked with Atletico striker

According to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa have been offered the chance to sign Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid.

Omorodion had been close to a £34.5m move to Chelsea earlier this summer, but is an option for Villa, if they can sell Jhon Duran before the transfer deadline.

Atletico Madrid are reportedly still interested in selling their forward.

Kieran Trippier latest

One of the more surprising transfer stories that emerged yesterday was that Kieran Trippier wants to leave Newcastle this summer.

The 33-year-old has been a key figure since Eddie Howe took charge of the club, but was an unused substitute against Southampton last weekend.

Trippier has two years left on his contract, but Newcastle have previously rejected an offer from Bayern Munich for the defender.

He is reportedly considering a move to Everton.
