Premier League: All the transfer rumours as deadline day approaches

Chelsea have completed the signing of Enzo Fernandez for £106m, in what is a British transfer record. The Blues met Benfica’s release clause for the Argentina midfielder shortly before Tuesday’s 11pm transfer deadline.

A statement from the Portuguese side confirmed the deal past midnight after Chelsea rushed to complete the transfer.

It came after Manchester United signed Marcel Sabitzer on loan from Bayern Munich until the end of the season. The Austria international adds to United’s midfield options after Christian Eriksen was ruled out for three months with an ankle injury.

Brighton held on to midfielder Moises Caicedo, but Arsenal turned their attention to another target and signed Jorginho from Premier League rivals Chelsea in a £13m deal.

Elsewhere, Tottenham confirmed the signing of right back Pedro Porro, with Matt Doherty joining Atletico Madrid on a free transfer after his contract with Spurs was terminated by mutual agreement.

Matias Vina joins Bournemouth from Roma on initial six-month loan

Matias Vina has joined Bournemouth from Roma on an initial six-month loan with the option to make the move permanent in the summer.

The 25-year-old Uruguay international is Bournemouth’s fourth signing of the January transfer window after the additions of Dango Ouattara, Darren Randolph and Antoine Semenyo.

Left-back Vina, who can also play as a central defender, began his senior career at Uruguayan side Nacional, leading them to a 47th top-flight title in 2019, the same year he was named Primera Division player of the year after scoring five goals in 34 appearances.

AFC Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake told the club website: “We are delighted to secure the services of Matias for at least the second half of the season.

Arsenal close in on Jorginho deal

Arsenal are closing in on their surprise move for midfielder Jorginho from Chelsea. The 31-year-old is in the final six months of his contract at Stamford Bridge and the two clubs have reportedly come to an agreement on a fee for the midfielder.

The Gunners are hoping to bolster their midfield options as they try to win the Premier League this season. Jorginho is set to have a medical as Arsenal hope to get the deal over the line before the end of the day.

It should be stressed that signing Jorginho is not seen as an alternate option to Brighton’s Moises Caicedo who Arsenal are also interested in.

Brighton’s Caicedo will be a harder transfer to get over the line but the Gunners are still pursuing the possibility regardless of whether they land Jorginho or not.

Manchester United linked with Raphinha

Manchester United are being linked with a last minute move for Barcelona winger Raphinha.

The Brazilian has had a touch time in Spain since joining from Leeds last summer and The Mirror report the Red Devils might bring him back to the Premier League in a shock move.

However, Erik ten Hag’s side are well covered in the wide areas with Antony, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Anthony Elanga on the books already, just to name a few.

It seems unlikely that United would pursue such a move over prioritising other areas they need to strengthen such as an out-and-out striker.

Arsenal pursuing options

Arsenal hope to bring more reinforcements to the Emirates before the end of the deadline later tonight. They’re working hard to convince Brighton to let Moises Caicedo leave this month and another target for the Gunners is Ivan Fresneda.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano says the Real Valladolid right-back could make a late move to Arsenal despite seemingly being convinced to remain at the club yesterday.

If a deal is finalised it is likely that the defender would stay at Valladolid until the end of the season as part of the contract.

Newcastle eye Sander Berge as Jonjo Shelvey replacement

One player already close to a move to Nottingham is Jonjo Shelvey, who had a medical last night ahead of a switch from Newcastle. While Eddie Howe appeared content with his business after concluding a deal for Anthony Gordon, the Tyneside club could yet re-enter the market in order to recruit a Shelvey replacement, with Sander Berge said to be top of the target list by the Newcastle Chronicle.

The Sheffield United midfielder has been linked with several clubs in January, including Liverpool and Fulham.

Nottingham Forest seek new goalkeeper

Spare a thought for the City Ground fax machine - it’s been a busy season of incoming and outgoings by the River Trent since Nottingham Forest’s return to the English top tier, and there could yet be one more new face in through the door before January concludes.

Dean Henderson could miss more than a month of action with a muscular issue, and Forest are said to be actively seeking some goalkeeping cover. While Steve Cooper played coy yesterday, PSG pair Keylor Navas and Sergio Rico have both been connected with the club.
