Harry Kane created Premier League history as his goal gave Tottenham a 1-0 win over Wolves. The England captain headed home in the second half to score for the 185th time in the Premier League – the most a player has scored for one club.

It took him above Sergio Aguero to fourth in the all-time list of scorers and it was his 250th in all competitions for Spurs, with Jimmy Greaves’ record of 266 surely under threat this season.

His goal, which was also Tottenham’s 1,000th at home in the Premier League, earned Spurs the win which extends their unbeaten start to the season.

Kane and partner in crime Son Heung-min both hit the woodwork in a much-improved second-half display. Wolves will perhaps feel hard done by as they were the better team in the opening 45 minutes with new record signing Matheus Nunes missing their best opportunity in the first half. Defeat leaves Bruno Lage’s side with just one point from their opening three games as they begin the season slowly again.

The intro analysis on BT Sport has focused on the midfield battle and how Matheus Nunes, Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves will shape up against Spurs’ duo of Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – it may be that Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski need to play a key role in preventing an overload in this area.

However, the chat of Hoddle, Cole and co is overshadowed by some excellent sprinkler action, which gives them a good showering on the touchline. Lovely to see.

Conte escapes touchline ban for tussle with Tuchel

Here’s the fallout from that Tuchel-Conte clash – no touchline ban for Conte so he will be in the dugout today:

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel has been fined £35,000 and hit with a one-match touchline ban over his clash with Antonio Conte in Sunday’s derby encounter with Tottenham.

Spurs boss Antonio Conte has also been fined £15,000 after both managers admitted improper conduct in several touchline clashes in the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Tuchel’s touchline ban has been suspended temporarily though, allowing the Chelsea manager to take his place in the dugout in Sunday’s Premier League clash at Leeds.

The German’s ban has been given a stay of execution until the publication of written reasons from the independent commission that adjudicated on the punishments.

Tuchel and Conte squared up to each other several times on the touchline in Sunday’s London derby, with both managers being sent off at full-time.

Lage, though, warned against expecting too much too soon from the club’s latest recruit.

“He is living in a hotel, doesn’t have a car yet and needs to learn how to drive on the other side – but the most important for him is to feel comfortable,” the Wolves boss said.

“We are buying a player for the long term. We don’t make any pressure – if he comes on from the bench and plays for 20 minutes, I don’t want him to score three goals against Tottenham.

“What I want is for him to start getting confidence and to know his team-mates and to play like he did for Sporting.”

Bruno Lage on new boy Matheus Nunes:

“I don’t know if anyone else (from a Champions League club) tried to sign him.

“But it is not about just the money and the club, it is about the project you can offer for him in this moment.

“What I know is that when I start to work with him, you can see the player he is.”

Wolves team news

No messing around from Bruno Lage, who brings new boy Matheus Nunes straight into the starting XI – it will be fascinating to see how he adapts after joining only this week for a hefty pricetag and with a huge reputation.

Fellow summer signing Goncalo Guedes starts in the forward line and Joao Moutinho starts too, as Dendoncker and Hwang drop to the bench. Morgan Gibbs-White is the other player who started against Fulham but he has now left the club, joining Forest.

Tottenham team news

Let’s start with the home side, who make a couple of changes from the 2-2 draw at Chelsea. Sanchez comes at the back for the injured Romero, while Perisic makes his first start at left wingback, replacing Sessegnon who drops to the bench.

Ivan Perisic has shown glimpses of his talent in his opening two cameos as sub but now gets the chance to run riot from the start.
