Follow live reaction after Scotland secured a World Cup play-off spot thanks to a comfortable 2-0 win over Moldova in Chisinau.

Steve Clarke’s men made the breakthrough when Nathan Patterson drilled in a stunning opener shortly before half-time, following a neat one-two with John McGinn.

Scotland remained on top following the interval and striker Che Adams doubled their lead midway through the second half after another brilliant combination between Patterson and McGinn.

Craig Gordon was called into a late penalty save while Kieran Tierney made a last-ditch challenge to deny Vadim Rata, but the victory was never in doubt as Scotland sealed second place in Group F with a game to spare.

Follow all the latest updates and analysis:

Moldova 0-0 Scotland

17 mins: Another chance for Scotland, their biggest of the match, and it falls to the captain! Roberson pounces on a loose backpass and drives into the box, but he can’t fire the shot across the goalkeeper. The finish is poor, you have to say, and Robertson is disappointed that he didn’t do better.

11 mins: Adams has made an encouraging start to the match as Scotland’s lone striker. He shows good hold-up play before finding Patterson in space down the right - but the wing-back can’t keep it in play as he tried to burst around the outside.

9 mins: Save! More good play from Scotland, again down the left. Tierney finds himself in space after making an overlapping run before his cross is headed clear. It breaks to Gilmour on the edge and his volley is beaten clear by goalkeeper Namașco, before the ball is scrambled clear by the Moldovan defence. It almost fell to Armstrong, before Tierney’s cross from the byline was put out for a corner and Moldova were able to clear.

Moldova 0-0 Scotland

6 mins: Chances at both ends! Moldova work their first opening as captain Artur Ioniță is played through on goal before dragging his shot wide of Gordan’s left hand post under pressure from Hendry.

Scotland then create another chance down the left after Adams slipped the ball wide to Armstrong, but his shot was straight at the goalkeeper as he tried to find the far corner.

Moldova 0-0 Scotland

4 mins: Confirmed - no goal. That’s encouraging for Scotland though. McGinn made another nice run and found Robertson in space on the left. His cross found Adams at the back post, and the striker was able to cut inside both the recovering defender and the goalkeeper before sticking the ball into the net - but he was offside from Robertson’s cross.

The travelling Tartan Army make themselves heard at the far end of the ground in Chisinau. Plenty have made the trip to eastern Europe for this one.

Kick off is moments away is this must-win World Cup qualifier.
