Follow live reaction after Scotland secured a World Cup play-off spot thanks to a comfortable 2-0 win over Moldova in Chisinau.

Steve Clarke’s men made the breakthrough when Nathan Patterson drilled in a stunning opener shortly before half-time, following a neat one-two with John McGinn.

Scotland remained on top following the interval and striker Che Adams doubled their lead midway through the second half after another brilliant combination between Patterson and McGinn.

Craig Gordon was called into a late penalty save while Kieran Tierney made a last-ditch challenge to deny Vadim Rata, but the victory was never in doubt as Scotland sealed second place in Group F with a game to spare.

SAVE! Moldova 0-2 Scotland

One year on from Serbia, another Scotland goalkeeper becomes the penalty hero! Gordon dives to his right to save Rata’s poor spot kick, but he palms the ball back into play. It takes a stunning recovering challenge from Tierney to deny Rata a tap-in in the six-yard box, before Scotland clear!

Moldova 0-2 Scotland

69 mins: Off the line! Gilmour swings a deep ball into the box from a corner and Cooper’s header is deflected on target - McGinn takes a swing at it before it’s booted clear by the defender on the line.

The Tartan Army are in full flow in the away end as Scotland push for a third in front of them.

GOAL! Moldova 0-2 Scotland (ADAMS 65’)

That should do it, and it’s another brilliant goal down Scotland’s right! It’s almost a copy of the first, with Patterson and McGinn heavily involved, but this time it’s Adams who tucks in at the back post to double Scotland’s lead!

Patterson again provided the spark, bursting inside before playing another wonderful one-two with McGinn, whose backheel into his path was again sublime. Patterson drove into the box but with the angle tight, fired the ball across goal for Adams to turn into the net.

Moldova 0-1 Scotland

62 mins: Good defending! Armstrong cuts the ball back to Gilmour, who feints to shoot before ducking around the outside. It takes a fine block by a recovering Moldova defender to stop his shot from hitting the target.
