From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Liverpool travel to basement boys Swansea tonight in search of all three points as they look to draw level with Chelsea on 50 points.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are unbeaten in 18 games, an impressive record that stretches back to their 4-1 humbling at Tottenham.

The same can’t be said for Swansea whose last defeat came at the turn of the year in a 2-0 loss by Tottenham. New manager Carlos Carvalhal has helped lift spirits at the Liberty – but will it be enough to fell visitors Liverpool?

Pre-match quotes from Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum

"We have to give even more than we did last week. It's going to be a tough game. They [Swansea] are fighting for their life. Every game for them is a chance to get more confidence to get out of the relegation zone.

"I think it's going to be more difficult than last week. We have to be concentrated."

Jurgen Klopp explains his team selection

“I didn’t think too much about a single player – I thought about the team’s performance.

“It’s very important that we all show the perfect attitude tonight. Life can be quite a challenge; our last game was against the top of the table and now it’s against the bottom of the table.

“We had a really good training week and the pitch here looks quite OK. A lot of things are different tonight. It’s all about the right attitude and I expect the right attitude from Virgil of course as well.

“If we show it then we are difficult to play, and if we are difficult to play then we can win the game.”

Liverpool have the chance to move five points clear of fifth-placed Spurs with a win tonight, while a victory by a margin of three goals or more will see them move up to third, ahead of Chelsea on goal difference.

Swansea, on the other hand, go into the game six points adrift of safety and are in desperate need of a positive result. However, even an unlikely win won't be enough to lift them from the foot of the table, where they currently lie with just 17 points from 23 games.
