From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Liverpool travel to basement boys Swansea tonight in search of all three points as they look to draw level with Chelsea on 50 points.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are unbeaten in 18 games, an impressive record that stretches back to their 4-1 humbling at Tottenham.

The same can’t be said for Swansea whose last defeat came at the turn of the year in a 2-0 loss by Tottenham. New manager Carlos Carvalhal has helped lift spirits at the Liberty – but will it be enough to fell visitors Liverpool?

88' - Just a couple of minutes to go in this one. Will Liverpool snatch a point late on or will the Swans hold out for a crucial victory in their fight against relegation?

90' - We'll have a minimum of four additional minutes at the end of this one.

90+1' - Swansea fail to clear their lines from an Adam Lallana cross and the ball falls nicely to Emre Can, who blazes a left-footed shot over the bar from just 12 yards out.

It doesn't look like it's going to be Liverpool's day.

Liam Corless22 January 2018 21:48

90+3' - Mo Salah has a late chance to equalise for Liverpool but his right-footed shot from a really tight angle goes high and wide of Lukasz Fabianski's goal.

That's a really poor finish from the visitors' star man.

90+4' - Off the post!

Roberto Firmino's header from Virgil van Dijk's cross cracks against the woodwork in the final minute of injury time and Swansea somehow scramble the ball behind for a corner.

What a finish to the match!

Full-time - Swansea 1-0 Liverpool

The final whistle goes and Alfie Mawson's first-half goal has won this one for the Swans, who move level on points with 19th-placed West Brom.

Liverpool, meanwhile, remain fourth, two points ahead of Spurs in fifth and three points behind third-placed Chelsea.

Post-match quotes from Carlos Carvalhal

The Swansea boss has just produced this gem of an analogy in his post-match interview with Sky Sports.

"I told my players that Liverpool is a really top team and they are really very strong but they are Formula 1.

"And if you put Formula 1 in London at 4 o'clock in the traffic, the Formula 1 will not run very fast.

"We made them play the way they don't like it."

Post-match quotes from Jurgen Klopp

"We lost the game in the first half. Not only because we conceded a goal but because we didn't keep the positions we wanted to be in.

"It was not a good game in a lot of parts. We wanted to do it differently and obviously it didn't work out.

"We weren't secure in the things we did and we weren't confident. The clearest chance was in the last second. A point would have been OK but not what we wanted before the game so that wouldn't have made the game any better, to be honest. "
