From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

With Burnley and Leicester already safe from relegation, the two sides battle it out at Turf Moor in the pursuit of European football this season, while Crystal Palace host rivals Brighton and Hove Albion at Selhurst Park in what is almost certain to be a feisty affair.
Swansea look to continue their climb up the Premier League table as they host an Everton side whose season is largely fizzling out, while Huddersfield Town take on Watford at the John Smith’s Stadium.
The evening kick-off sees Liverpool look to take momentum from their victory over Manchester City in mid-week as they face Bournemouth at Anfield, while a rare Saturday late game will headline the day’s action as Tottenham host City at Wembley.

54' - Liverpool's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is booked for a late challenge on Jordon Ibe.
56' - Virgil van Dijk connects sweetly with a strike from distance but the ball is always rising and flies a good couple of feet over Asmir Begovic's crossbar.
Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe and his assistant Jason Tindall watch on from the sidelines
62' - Trent Alexander-Arnold wins the ball back deep inside the Liverpool half and sparks a counter-attack, which ends abruptly when Mo Salah sends a tame shot from distance straight at Asmir Begovic.
The Egyptian hasn't been at his clinical best today, it's fair to say.
67' - Liverpool appeal for a penalty after Mo Salah goes down in the box following a push by Nathan Ake but the referee, like in the first half, waves play on.
There was certainly contact there but the amount of contact perhaps wasn't enough to warrant the award of a spot-kick.
GOAL! Liverpool 2-0 Bournemouth (Salah, 69)
Is there anything this lad can't do?
Trent Alexander-Arnold delivers an incredible cross into the box for Mo Salah, who, with his back towards goal, diverts a looping header over the diving Asmir Begovic and into the back of the net.
Superb.
70' - Chance!
Sadio Mane almost adds a third for Liverpool but his left-footed strike from distance skids just wide of the diving Asmir Begovic's goal.
