From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

With Burnley and Leicester already safe from relegation, the two sides battle it out at Turf Moor in the pursuit of European football this season, while Crystal Palace host rivals Brighton and Hove Albion at Selhurst Park in what is almost certain to be a feisty affair.
Swansea look to continue their climb up the Premier League table as they host an Everton side whose season is largely fizzling out, while Huddersfield Town take on Watford at the John Smith’s Stadium.
The evening kick-off sees Liverpool look to take momentum from their victory over Manchester City in mid-week as they face Bournemouth at Anfield, while a rare Saturday late game will headline the day’s action as Tottenham host City at Wembley.

Everybody inside Anfield will now take part in a minute's applause to celebrate the lives of those lost in the Hillsborough disaster back in 1989.
3' - Chance for Liverpool!
Trent Alexander-Arnold delivers an incredible cross into the box where Mo Salah is waiting but, for once, the Egyptian misses the target with his close-range finish.
That should've been 1-0.
GOAL! Liverpool 1-0 Bournemouth (Mane, 7)
Sadio Mane sees his initial header from Jordan Henderson's cross saved by Asmir Begovic but the Bournemouth goalkeeper can't hold the ball and Mane gobbles up the rebound!
That goal has been coming since minute one of this match.
12' - Liverpool are just going through the motions here. They're by far the superior side and are threatening to add to that early Mane goal, with the Reds' potent front three looking particularly threatening.
15' - Bournemouth's Nathan Ake is booked for a mistimed challenged on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
16' - Asmir Begovic makes a smart stop down low to his right to keep out a Trent Alexander-Arnold free-kick.
This is looking ominous for the visitors.
18' - Asmir Begovic is called into action again and this time it's to deny Reds marksman Mo Salah after Trent Alexander-Arnold's neat pick-out.
You do feel that it's only a matter of time before Liverpool double their lead.
