From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham all recorded emphatic victories on Boxing Day, taking full advantage of Manchester City's second consecutive defeat as Pep Guardiola's side slumped to a 2-1 loss at Leicester City.

City looked to be cruising when Bernardo Silva put them ahead early on, but Marc Albrighton soon equalised and Ricardo Pereira stole the show with his late winner the inflicted back-to-back defeats on City, who also had Fabian Delph sent off late on for a bad challenge.

The defeat was all the more costly given that Liverpool thrashed Newcastle United 4-0 thanks to goals from Dejan Lovren, Mohamed Salah, Xherdan Shaqiri and Fabinho, while Tottenham's 5-0 thrashing of Bournemouth elevates them to second, with Son Heung-min scoring twice along with Christian Eriksen, Lucas Moura and Harry Kane.

United's resurgence under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continued at Old Trafford as a Paul Pogba double, plus an early opener from Nemanja Matic, secured a 3-1 victory over Huddersfield, while Everton recovered from last weekend's mauling by Spurs with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Burnley, with Lucas Digne scoring twice while Yerry Minda scored his first goal for the club. The other 3pm match was the only one not to feature a goal as Crystal Palace were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Cardiff City. Re-live the action below.

And we're underway...

Burnley 0-1 Everton (Mina, 2)

Bernard crosses the ball into the path of Mina who can't believe his luck as he's stood completely unmarked in the middle of the box and he loops his header into the far post.

That's his first goal for the Toffees and boy, did they need that after last weekend's hopeless game against Spurs.

Liverpool 1-0 Newcastle (Lovren, 10)

Cracking finish from a centre half and Lovren is the one who has given them the lead.

Robertson swings in the cross and while Newcastle clear it with his head, Lovren hits a sweet half volley to give the Reds the lead, perhaps against the run of play, though.

GOAL! Burnley 0-2 Everton (Digne, 12)

Wow! Everton have hit back and some.

Digne curls a wonderful free-kick over the wall and he's becoming a big threat at these set pieces.

Brilliant from Everton and early doors, they look rather comfortable.

GOAL! Leicester 0-1 Manchester City (Bernardo Silva, 14)

City respond well to the news that Liverpool have taken the lead and take it themselves.

Aguero with a great touch on to Bernardo Silva who composes himself to put it beyond Schmeichel.

Lots of early goals.

GOAL! Tottenham 1-0 Bournemouth (Eriksen, 16)

And here's another one to add to the list.

It's not as good as his sweet strike versus Everton, taking a deflection on its way to goal but his left footed strike, regardless of the quality, has seen the net ripple and the goal given.

All of the top three are leading after only a quarter of an hour.

GOAL! Leicester City 1-1 Manchester City (Albrighton, 19)

A superb goal from Leicester City has given them the equaliser and it's brilliant play from Jamie Vardy.

Classic counter attack as Vardy gets down the left and spots Albrighton making space down the right and catches Delph flat-footed with the cross.

It's plum on Albrighton's head and he finds the corner back where it's come from.

GOAL! Burnley 0-3 Everton (Sigurdsson pen 22)

We're barely past 20 minutes and Everton have already scored half the goals they conceded last week.

It's an incredible result at the moment but can they keep the clean sheet?

Ben Mee is the one responsible for giving the penalty away, leaving his hands up in the air and the referee had no choice but to point to the spot.

Craziness at Turf Moor at the moment.
