From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The battle for seventh place and potential Europa League football sees Watford host Wolves at Vicarage Road, with the victor set to surge ahead as favourites to finish as ‘best of the rest’ in the Premier League.
Crystal Palace are looking to build on their victory over Arsenal last time out as they welcome Everton to Selhurst Park, while a big day in the relegation battle sees Cardiff City travel to Fulham – with Brighton and Hove Albion taking on Newcastle United in the day’s late game. Southampton meanwhile take on fellow south coast side Bournemouth. Follow the live action below.

Fulham vs Cardiff City – 3pm
Southampton vs Bournemouth – 3pm
Watford vs Wolves – 3pm
Brighton vs Newcastle United – 5:30pm
1 minute
It is a 4-4-2 for Brighton, and a 3-4-3 for Newcastle, both as expected.
About three-quarters of the Amex pitch is bathed in rather glorious fashion. Storm Hannah clearly didn't fancy an early evening trip to Falmer.
2 minutes
A chance for Brighton, maybe, winning a free kick by the corner of the box on their left.
A shooting opportunity, and Martin Dubravka has directed his players to form a five-man wall.
3 minutes
That's one of the worst bits of football I've seen all season.
Two players combine by the ball, touching the ball at least once too many times before attempting to square the ball to a player peeling to the edge of the box.
They are marked anyway, and the pass is about three yards wide of the mark anyway.
What a waste!
4 minutes
A lovely piece of footwork from Jonjo Shelvey to go past Beram Kayal, but his attempted pass forward finds only Shane Duffy's well-worn dome.
He'll win those all day, particularly when there's not a Newcastle shirt within five yards.
6 minutes
Another cross from Shelvey is headed away and out for a throw.
Newcastle with the early possession in their maroon and deep blue change kit, utilising the width with Matt Ritchie seeing plenty of the ball at left wing-back.
All smiles ahead of kick-off for Rafa Benitez. His side have started the brighter.
7 minutes
Florin Andone's cross is blocked behind by Jonjo Shelvey.
Corner kick for Brighton.
8 minutes
Martin Dubravka's punch is not the most convincing, but it gets the ball clear nonetheless.
Glenn Murray is well jockeyed by Paul Dummett as he looks to send in a follow-up. Another corner.
9 minutes
Pascal Groß' delivery is a little too deep. Newcastle clear.
10 minutes
Now then.
Florin Andone can't believe he's been booked, but he might be lucky it isn't more.
He's jumped nastily into a challenge and landed square on Christian Atsu's foot. Firmly, too.
Mike Dean produces the yellow, but there's an argument that's a red card. Not a nice one.
